Barbie: The Album: Release Date, Artists And Movie Spoilers

BARBIE MOVIE

A new trailer for Greta Gerwig’s upcoming film about the iconic doll finally revealed the movie’s mysterious plot, which unfolds after Barbie (Margot Robbie) verbalizes a deep thought during a lavish dance party at her Dreamhouse: “You guys ever think about dying?”

The summer of Barbie just got its soundtrack. When the highly anticipated “Barbie” movie hits theaters on July 21, fans will also be able to blast “Barbie: The Album.” On May 25, Rolling Stone announced news of the album, which will be released the same day as the film. The outlet also announced some of the all-star artists that will be featured on the soundtrack, including Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, Haim, Lizzo, K-pop group Fifty Fifty, and — perhaps most interestingly — Ryan Gosling, who plays Ken in the film. These artists join pop star Dua Lipa (who plays a mermaid Barbie in the movie). Her “Barbie” song “Dance the Night” will be released this weekend.

Fans can already preorder the album on its website, and there are multiple special-edition vinyls and cassette tapes. Most of the album covers feature Margot Robbie as Barbie, lounging in her iconic bathing suit and sunglasses. The album has its own Instagram page, where excited fans will probably be able to get some sneak peeks before its release.

The “Barbie” movie stars Robbie as Barbie and Gosling as Ken — plus a whole slate of other Barbies and Kens. The sprawling cast includes Issa Rae, Simu Liu, Helen Mirren, Nicola Coughlan, and many more. Ahead, here’s what we know about “Barbie: The Album.”

“Barbie: The Album” Artists

The “Barbie: The Album” artist list so far features Ava Max, Charli XCX, “Euphoria” star Dominic Fike, Lipa, Fifty Fifty, Gayle, Haim, Ice Spice, Kali, Karol G, Khalid, Lizzo, Minaj, PinkPantheress, Tame Impala, The Kid Laroi, and Gosling. The announcement also notes that “more Barbies and Kens” will be announced in the future, meaning this list isn’t complete yet.

“Barbie: The Album” Track List

The only song that’s been officially announced is Lipa’s “Dance the Night.”

Trailer Revealed told us

A toy expressing this very human concern starts creating cracks in the fantastical world that Barbie inhabits. Suddenly, her showers aren’t hot anymore, a leap off her roof doesn’t feel like it’s being safely guided to the ground by a child’s hand, and — worst of all — her signature tiptoed feet have gone … flat.

We know. We know! We’ll give you a moment to digest that last detail. (In the meantime, please feel free to to watch this video of puppies tirelessly pursuing a cat for a snuggle. It’s going to be OK!)

The “Barbie” trailer suggests that the beloved doll must learn how to live outside of the figurative box and venture into the real world, with Ken (Ryan Gosling) in tow.

And despite earlier reporting that Aqua’s 1997 hit “Barbie Girl” would not appear in the film, the end of the trailer includes a brief snippet of the song — or at least a version of it.

According to details on Apple Music, the movie’s soundtrack features a track called “Barbie World” from Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice and Aqua. That’s an interesting move, considering that Mattel — the company behind the Barbie brand — once filed a lawsuit alleging trademark infringement after “Barbie Girl” was released in the ’90s.

“Barbie: The Album” Release Date

“Barbie: The Album” will be released July 21, the same day as the film.
