Could Henry Cavill be the next Bond? The Witcher star says never say never!

Henry Cavill first auditioned for the role but lost out to Daniel Craig for being out of shape, but now The Witcher star says never say never to 007.

As Daniel Craig bows out of playing James Bond, Cavill’s odds to replace him have, at last glance, been slashed from 12/1 to 6/1. Cavill did go for the role of Bond in 2006, only to be told he should lose weight after a test scene in which he walked out of a shower. Fifteen years later, is Cavill, now 38, still keen? “Time will tell,” he says. “You don’t know which direction they want to take Bond in and so I like to say that everything’s always on the table.”

HENRY CAVILL has been backed to play the next James Bond by a former Daniel Craig director who doesn’t believe the 007 producers would let him helm such a project with the Superman star in the lead.

In contrast as Spider-Man smashes box office records and destroys No Time To Die’s opening weekend, bookies have slashed Tom Holland’s odds dramatically as he closes in on fellow comic book blockbuster stars Henry Cavill and Tom Hardy.

Holland is still only 25, when one of his main rivals lost out on the role the last time around for being too young. Henry Cavill was down to the last two with Daniel Craig to take over as Bond in Casino Royale, but was only 23. However, this time there is a lot of industry chatter about how the franchise producers could take it in a bold new direction.

After all, the six previous Bonds have taken the main story based on Ian Fleming’s books to its absolute limits. Perhaps it’s time to do something very different – and Holland has made it very clear he is in the running. But so is Cavill.

“Henry Cavill, that man was born to play Bond”

“When you see how he is in this film, I was just like, wow, this guy is everything you’d imagine Bond to have been, or be.”

However, if Cavill is to become Bond, Vaughn doesn’t think he’ll be the one to direct the project.

He said candidly: “More important, I don’t think the Bond people would touch me with a stick. They don’t like me.

“You know, to be blunt. I love Bond. It’s obviously a huge influence on me. Argylle… just wait until you see Argylle.”

Nevertheless, the Superman star himself has responded positively to the idea of playing 007, saying he’d love to chat to the producers.
