Every Upcoming Ryan Reynolds Film

Ryan Reynolds‘ new movie projects are almost always guaranteed to be blockbusters

From his best to his worst movies, Ryan Reynolds consistently entertains, and though he’s taken on more serious roles in movies like The Amityville Horror, Reynolds is best known both on and off-screen as a comedic presence and romantic lead.

The 46 year-old star was already a notable name before playing the lead role in 2016’s Deadpool, but the hugely successful release of that movie — along with Reynolds’ talent for social media and viral marketing — has made him one of Hollywood’s most popular stars today. After the release of Deadpool 2 in 2018, the superhero franchise was effectively put on pause due to Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox. Since then, Reynolds has voiced an adorable miniature sleuth in Detective Pikachu, starred in the Netflix action-comedy Red Notice, and even appeared in the music video for Taylor Swift’s “You Need To Calm Down.”

Today, Ryan Reynolds’ new movie Deadpool 3 is undoubtedly the actor’s most highly anticipated project. This is especially true since Reynolds confirmed via social media that Hugh Jackman will be joining him in Deadpool 3 as Wolverine. That said, Deadpool 3 certainly isn’t the only new movie from Reynolds to keep an eye on. Here are all the new Ryan Reynolds movies coming out, including a Christmas Carol-inspired musical.

Spirited (2022)

The musical Spirited is one of the more intriguing of Ryan Reynolds’ new movie projects, as it sees the actor treading completely new ground compared to his previous work. Reynolds will produce alongside Will Ferrell, with Sean Anders and John Morris attached to direct – in a live-action adaptation of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol, which was acquired by Apple in October 2019. Spirited is a retelling of the classic tale and also stars Octavia Spencer, Ferrell, and Sunita Mani. Spirited is currently in post-production and should release in late 2022, making it the next of Ryan Reynolds’ upcoming movies to come out.

Futha Mucka (TBD)

Although it can’t technically be called Ryan Reynold’s new movie, the animated short series Futha Mucka is definitely worth checking out as it stars the voice talents of both Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson. Futha Mucka was announced in 2020 for Quibi, but the streaming service has since been shuttered. That said, it’s possible Futha Mucka will live on to release as a Roku Original at some point soon.

Everyday Parenting Tips (TBD)

Ryan Reynolds’ new movie Everyday Parenting Tips is based on a New Yorker article. This will be another comedy, where Reynolds will play a dad struggling to raise his kids in a world that has been taken over by monsters. Paul King is set to direct the film, which is currently in pre-production.

Deadpool 3 (November 8 2024)

The sequel Deadpool 3 was in limbo for a bit, but the new Ryan Reynolds movie is now officially in the works and will be MCU canon. The two previous Deadpool movies have a combined box office total of almost $1.5 billion, so creating another sequel makes a lot of sense. Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin are set to write the film, with Reynolds reprising his role as the title character. Most notably, Deadpool 3 will feature Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine, which means that Disney may just live up to its promise of making the Deadpool sequel an R-rated movie. Deadpool 3 will release in theaters on November 8, 2024.

Dragon’s Lair (2022)

One of the most quietly anticipated new movies with Ryan Reynolds, the iconic Dragon’s Lair — an arcade game created by Rick Dyer and Don Bluth — is being adapted by Netflix and stars Ryan Reynolds. Originally released in 1983, Dragon’s Lair was known for its superior graphics, rapid-fire, choice-based game-play, and infamous difficulty. The Netflix adaptation will follow the heroic knight who is trying to rescue a princess from an evil dragon and a wizard. Don Bluth and Gary Goldman are set to direct Dragon’s Lair, which is expected to release on Netflix sometime in 2023.

Clue (TBD)

Ryan Reynolds is set to star in another upcoming game adaptation: Clue. Curiously, this could go better than Adam Sandler’s Murder Mystery, as Reynold’s Clue is a direct remake of the cult dark comedic movie that practically jump-started the murder mystery genre. Based on the popular board game, this new Ryan Reynolds movie is only the second onscreen adaptation following the 1986 cult classic movie starring Tim Curry. The Muppets director James Bobin is joining Reynolds, with Jason Bateman attached to star too.

If (May 24 2024)

Starring alongside John Krasinski, who is set to write and direct If, previously titled Imaginary Friends. Reynolds plays a guy who can interact with other people’s imaginary friends. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on May 24, 2024. Notably, Reynolds and Krasinski will be starring alongside The Office co-star Steve Carell, Fleabag‘s Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Academy Award-winning actor Louis Gossett Jr., and SNL-alum Bobby Moynihan. If is a highly ambitious fantasy comedy that might be safe from bad Ryan Reynolds product placement attempts, if only out of respect for the legendary comedians on the cast. That said, as with every Ryan Reynolds project, it’s safest to expect the unexpected.

Red Notice 2 & 3 (TBD)

Red Notice 2 and 3 are confirmed to be happening. 2021 Netflix action comedy Red Notice was a critical flop, with a score of 37% on both Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes — yet this clearly hasn’t deterred Netflix, Reynolds, or the rest of the Red Notice cast. Indeed, whatever the critics think of the movie, Red Notice still clocked in a massive 148.72 million viewing hours on its opening weekend. As a result, the beginning of production is scheduled for early 2023 on a Red Notice sequel, and it’s been confirmed as the second part of a trilogy. Further details are slim, although Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson will undoubtedly be joining Reynolds for the Red Notice follow-ups.

Free Guy 2 (TBD)

A new Ryan Reynolds movie following Free Guy felt inevitable, and the script for Free Guy 2 was reportedly due to be delivered in early 2022. Not much news has been heard since, but 20th Century Studios President Steve Asbell seems to be incredibly happy with what he’s seen so far of the story and script. In the interview, Asbell talked about several upcoming projects from 20th Century Studios, including “more Free Guy movies coming.” It could be the studio has plans for multiple adventures for Guy, the star of the Free Guy cast, or it could be that there are spin-offs down the line set in the same universe. Either way, Reynolds has confirmed his involvement in Free Guy 2 (via The MarkMeets), with director Shawn Levy also hinting at his involvement.

Possible Hitman’s Bodyguard/The Man From Toronto Crossover

One of the least concrete new Ryan Reynolds movies, director Patrick Hughes has said he’d be interested in directing a crossover between his films The Man From Toronto and The Hitman’s Bodyguard. When asked about a potential crossover in an interview, Hughe’s said, “We need a crossover. Because I think Ryan Reynold’s character, Michael Bryce in The Hitman Bodyguard franchise, has some similarities to Kevin Hart’s character in Man From Toronto. I think those two would be a bumbling mess, between them.” (via The Illuminerdi). This brilliant crossover idea further proves that Ryan Reynolds makes better action movies than comedies. If the project were greenlit, it would no doubt be a hit, as both movies have cultivated their own followings online. It’s also no secret that Hollywood is in dire need of more genuinely funny action comedies. Currently, the idea is purely speculative, but fans of Ryan Reynolds in The Hitman’s Bodyguard (and the sequel The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard) are no doubt hopeful the crossover becomes reality.
