With the help of Bruce Banner, they gave birth to an Artificial Intelligence far superior than anything created before; Ultron. Determined to create world peace, Ultron recruits two new “experiments” and sets about putting his plan in motion. The Avengers must pull everything they have to avoid global extinction.

Boom! This was the film I was looking for. Joss Whedon did not hold back, straight away he jumps into an epic fight scene featuring the various skills from our heroes. This was the first of many fights and they just got better and better. To give you an idea of what it was like imagine an introduction to a 1990’s kids cartoon like the Powerpuff Girls but directed by Michael Bay. Each combat more intense than the previous one, from Quicksilver trying to catch Mjölnir (Thor’s Hammer) to Iron Man gearing up with the ‘Hulkbuster’ to take on the big green fighting machine.

What was nice about the whole feel of the film is that it’s not all about the action. Marvel is known for being light and child friendly compared to DC. What I think we have here is the first steps towards dealing with characters that have been broken, for example we get to know a little more of Black Widows’ dark past. Which is great because we have some deeper films to come: Civil War for example.

Age of Ultron has one of the best scripts to date. The lines that test the 4th wall and repeating jokes make this film very quotable, I really have to watch my language now when I’m with my friends. Everything appears so natural and organic, it almost feels like the actors are now believing they are Captain America or Hawkeyes. Matching this with a beautiful CGI, it just sums up as possibly one of the best child friendly superhero movies to date. If I have to say something bad, still no one is addressing the obvious problem: why doesn’t one avenger request help during individual films??? But that is a rant for another day.

We all know the usual suspects: Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner and Samual L. Jackson, all of them here to chew gum and kick ass (without any gum) and they did this incredibly as always, no one walked out of the screening with a sad look on their face. It’s also time to add a couple of new faces: Elizabeth Olsen who plays Wanda Maximoff and Aaron Taylor-Johnson also known as Pietro Maximoff. These guys have worked together on the 2014 remake of Godzilla as on-screen husband and wife. It felt a bit more forced when they appeared together supporting each other, but I’m not sure what was lacking. When separated, the emotions between the twins were more palpable. This is also the first time we see Paul Bettany as more than just the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S. He also is the embodiment of The Vision. His calming persona makes him an ideal choice, and who could say no to a Brit being the super advanced AI!

Age of Ultron is really going to open up the Marvel universe, adding in new characters, like Scarlet Witch, in with War Machine to create a new team. It really gives me hope for the films that are coming that will test the boundaries of a typical Marvel film. If you do or don’t know your comics this is still an amazing watch. It fits in well with the universe as it is currently and has lots of action and laughs for everyone.
