A dazzling red carpet will see many a cemeb attend the Golden Globes wuth nominations iincluding Rihanna, who picked up her first-ever Golden Globe nom for her musical contributions to the Black Panther sequel.

Other big names nominated include Avatar: The Way of Water and Top Gun: Maverick – both nominated for Best Picture (Drama).

Cate Blanchett (Tár), Olivia Colman (Empire of Light), Viola Davis (The Woman King), and Brendan Fraser (The Whale) are some stars nominated for their work in film this year.

But when will the winners be announced and what’s special about this year’s ceremony?

When are the Golden Globes 2023?

The Golden Globes will return for a lavish, full-scale ceremony for the first time since 2021. The 2022 ceremony was not broadcast after the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the organisation behind the awards, was widely criticised.

Studios including Netflix and WarnerMedia cut ties with the event after backlash to the lack of diversity in their nominations, and questions about ‘the group’s ethical and financial lapses’, per the LA Times.

However, after much reflection and a commitment to change, the 2023 Golden Globes will return with a full, ritzy affair on Tuesday, January 10.

Where do the Golden Globes take place?

The 80th annual Golden Globe Awards will take place at their usual home, the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

The iconic hotel was opened by Conrad Hilton (Paris Hilton’s great-grandfather) in 1955.

Since 1961, the hotel’s International Ballroom has hosted the Golden Globe Awards ceremony.

Jennifer Coolidge, Jenna Ortega, Claire Danes, Henry Golding, Hilary Swank, Jay Ellis, Letitia Wright, Mo Brings Plenty, Regina Hall, and Salma Hayek Pinault have also joined as presenters. They join the first wave of presenters announced at the ceremony, which included Ana De Armas, Ana Gasteyer, Billy Porter, Colman Domingo, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Natasha Lyonne, Nicole Byer, Niecy Nash-Betts, Quentin Tarantino, and Tracy Morgan.

Who is hosting the Golden Globes this year?

Emmy-winning comedian Jerrod Carmichael will oversee the evening.

In April 2022, he headlined a HBO Max stand-up special titled Rothaniel. The show — directed by fellow comedian Bo Burnham — was critically acclaimed, and also made headlines because Carmichael publicly came out as gay during it.

Carmichael might also be familiar to some for starring in movies including the 2014 comedy Neighbors and its sequel, Neighbors: Sorority Rising.

While he MCs the night, he’ll be helped by a plethora of Hollywood stars who have been confirmed as presenters.Ana de Armas, Pose’s Billy Porter and Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Halloween’s Jamie Lee Curtis, Russian Doll star Natasha Lyonne, Niecy Nash-Betts, Quentin Tarantino, and 30 Rock’s Tracy Morgan will all be on hand to give out some awards.
