In its second deal of the Toronto Film Festival, Relativity Studios has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Halle Berry’s upcoming thriller “Kidnap” from Lotus Entertainment.
Shooting will begin later this fall with Berry starring as a mother who will stop at nothing to rescue her kidnapped son. Luis Prieto is attached to direct from Knate Gwaltney’s first screenplay.
Di Bonaventura Pictures’ Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Erik Howsam are producing the film.
Relativity acquired rights earlier this week to “The Woman in Black 2″ and noted it has been building up its action-thriller stockpile with “3 Days to Kill,” “The November Man” and D.J. Caruso’s “The Disappointments Room,” which is going into production.
CAA packaged the project and represented the domestic rights. Lotus Entertainment and Gold Star Films financed “Kidnap” and Lotus is handling international sales.
Exec producers are Joey Tufaro and Colin Bates; Lotus Entertainment’s Bill Johnson, Jim Seibel, D.J. Gugenheim and Ara Keshishian; and Halle Berry with her producing partner Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas through their 606 Films production banner.
Berry is represented by CAA, Vincent Cirrincione Associates, and attorney Doug Stone with Stone, Meyer, Genow, Smelkinson and Binder. Luis Prieto is represented by CAA, and Knate Gwaltney is represented by CAA and attorney Darren Trattner at Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum Morris & Klein.
