Jason Momoa has apparently entered talks to join the cast of director Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel follow-up Batman vs. Superman.
Warner Bros recently announced that Gal Gadot will fill the role of Wonder Woman in the pic, and now that Snyder and producers have turned their attention to casting the film’s villain, it’s possible that Momoa could be playing the DC pic’s Big Bad. Hit the jump for more.
While Jason Momoa came very close to landing a role in the Marvel Movie Universe by way of Guardians of the Galaxy’s Drax the Destroyer, the part ultimately ended up going to David Bautista. No matter, it now looks like Momoa will get his shot at a big superhero movie.
News of Momoa’s involvement comes courtesy of Heat Vision, which reports that the actor is in negotiations to take on an unspecified role in Batman vs. Superman. Obviously the plot and character details are being kept under lock and key, but rumors have swirled that the Batman vs. Superman villain could be the Krypton-born Doomsday, which would certainly fit Momoa’s physique.
Another possibility, as Heat Vision points out, is that Momoa could actually be playing a hero in the pic, specifically Martian Manhunter. The character is a super-powered alien who was trapped on Earth, and the report speculates that since WB is so keen on filling out its DC comics universe by introducing a new Batman and Wonder Woman in the pic, it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility for Momoa to be playing a superhero as well.
All this to say we don’t really know who Momoa is playing, but he will almost certainly be in the film. The actor has been delving into more genre properties as of late, playing Ronan Dex on Stargate: Atlantis and Khal Drogo on HBO’s Game of Thrones. He led a feature film of his own by way of the 2011 Conan the Barbarian reboot, but the pic didn’t exactly take off. Nevertheless, he’ll get the chance to shine onscreen once more when Batman vs. Superman opens in theaters on July 17, 2015.
