High School can be a tough time for anyone: Popularity contests, homework deadlines and discovering who you are. Greg (Thomas Mann) only wants to survive and has developed his own way avoiding everything that makes it more complex while he and his ‘co-worker’, Earl (RJ Cyler), re-created classic movies in their own special way.
Until the day that their world is re-aligned when Greg’s mother tells Greg he is to spend his time with a fellow acquaintance who has been diagnosed with cancer – Rachel (Olivia Cooke).
Not only does Greg understand the true meaning of friendship but he gets the opportunity to re-defines who he is.
Originally a book written by Jesse Andrews in 2013, this is a touching story told in such a perfect way: a teenager in his final year not wanting to be anything he is not, only to make it through the year.
But when he is forced by his mum to be someone he is not it changes his life and he starts to discover who he is and what really matters in life. Just to show how special this film is it was winner of the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival 2015.
Although the story line is quite clear from the trailers I cannot wait to see how this film explores what could be considered quite a morbid subject in a film that has been described as innovative and surprisingly funny.
Just from the trailer I can tell it will be a must see film for 2015 and potentially one of the best films of the year.
Me, Earl and the Dying Girl is due to be released in the UK on September 9th 2015.
