Miley Cyrus has been cast in Dolly Parton’s upcoming movie Mountain Magic Christmas.

29-year-old pop star Miley Cyrus will be joining her godmother (Dolly Parton), 76, on the small screen this holiday season.

Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas was first announced in May, and now has a full ensemble.

Also set to appear in the project are Miley’s dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, Jimmy Fallon, and country music icon Willy Nelson.

The film has been described as ‘a modern-day movie musical about the making of a network TV special.’

It will portray the behind-the-scenes trajectory of Dolly’s ‘desire to uplift an exhausted world’s spirits by sharing the unique “mountain magic” she has always found in and around Dollywood at Christmas.’

To that end, the Tennessee native ‘finds herself taking a private journey into her past, guided by the mysterious appearances of her personal Three Wise Mountain Men,’ the movie’s log line reads.

It continues, ‘When it’s time for her big special to air, a renewed and inspired Dolly goes rogue and shows the world that the real magic of Christmas lies in the hearts of the children we all once were, the realization that Christmas is about the people we share it with, and how her faith remains the common thread between Christmases past, present, and future.’

Dolly and Miley have teamed up numerous times in the past to perform together onstage and they recorded a duet, Rainbowland, which appeared on Cyrus’ 2017 studio album Younger Now.

The casting announcement comes just days after the country crooner took to Instagram to announce a deluxe version of her 2020 Christmas album.

Writing to her 5.3 million followers she said, ‘It’s the most wonderful time of the year! A Holly Dolly Christmas Ultimate Deluxe is coming October 14th, and to celebrate, I’m sharing my previously unreleased track “A Smoky Mountain Christmas” today!’

She encouraged her supporters to, ‘Go give it a listen and head to my story to pre-order now.’

A premiere date for the feature hasn’t yet been announced by the broadcast network.
