‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3′ Premieres Next Month

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 will be coming out next month!

The premiere date for the highly-anticipated third movie of the popular franchise is just around the corner.

More than 20 years after Vardalos charmed the pants off of wedding guests around the world, earning her an Oscar nomination and making the film the highest-grossing romantic comedy ever, she’s returning to the old country for a family reunion. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, the long-awaited conclusion to the whole Big Fat saga, known among Vardalos heads as the Toula-ology, is coming to theaters this year.

Nia Vardalos will be returning as a star (and also directing!) with John Corbett, Louis Mandylor, Elena Kampouris, Maria Vacratsis, Andrea Martin, Gia Carides, and Joey Fatone.

Elias Kacavas and Melina Kotselou have joined the cast for the thrid movie.

“The sweet friendship which bloomed from the producers’ first taking a chance on me then grew into a beautiful relationship as they entrusted me to direct this installment of our franchise,” Nia shared in a statement. “We filmed our family reunion entirely in Greece which was thrilling for us all. Plus, we ate for free.”

The movie will be the first My Big Fat Greek Wedding since 2016 when the first sequel made $90 million worldwide. We’d also be remiss if we didn’t at least mention the TV series based on the film, My Big Fat Greek Life: A Big Fat Greek Story…

The Graves alum noted via Instagram in October 2021 that she had completed the screenplay for My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, where she teased that Toula and Ian would not be grandparents.

Vardalos and the My Big Fat Greek Wedding cast traveled to Athens, Greece, for the sequel’s production. In at least one scene, they are filming at the Plaka, a neighborhood near the Acropolis.

“Good morning from the island of Corfu, in Greece. ☀️ Much of #mybigfatgreekwedding3 will be filmed on the mainland including Athens, and on several islands which will be amalgamated into one location in the film. I wish I could put all of Greece into the camera lens,” the I Hate Valentine’s Day actress wrote via Instagram in July 2022.

“I am overwhelmed with emotions, so much relief and gratitude all day, and now hot tears are pouring down my face,” Vardalos wrote via Instagram in August 2022, confirming the end of filming. “Thank you crew, cast, producers, studio, financiers and our new friends in the town of Varipatades, Corfu, Greece. In these difficult times we are living in, it’s extremely appreciated when magic happens.

Vardalos, who previously directed I Hate Valentine’s Day, announced in June 2022 that she would helm the new sequel.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 hits theaters on September 8, 2023.

“Thassssssright!!! You are all invited to the big fat family reunion!! Thank you @focusfeatures @universalpictures !! Here we go! #mybigfatgreekwedding3 !! Yes, everyone was invited back. If you don’t see them in photos, you will see them in the film,” Vardalos captioned a July 2022 Instagram photo of her with several of her castmates.
