We’ve put together all details on “Teen Wolf: The Movie,” including plot hints, returning cast members, and more ahead. And until the movie comes out this January, you can always rewatch old episodes of the series on Paramount+.
Time to get the pack back together! Four years after Teen Wolf took its last bow on MTV, the characters will get to reunite for a revival movie.
Even though it took a few years to return to the story, creator Jeff Davis has had plans to return to the Teen Wolf universe since its 2017 finale.
“That was very specific. We didn’t want a finale that said ‘the end.’ We wanted it to be an ‘and the adventure continues…’ I like imagining that they’re going off to continue the fight,” Davis explained tabout choosing not to wrap up every detail. “I didn’t want to see an end where they all have children and they’re happy and at home. That felt anticlimactic to me.”
The movie, which follows the series that aired from 2011 to 2017, picks up after the season finale during which Scott McCall (Tyler Posey) and his friends finished their mission to save Beacon Hills.
“A full moon rises in Beacon Hills, and with it, a terrifying evil has emerged. The wolves are howling once again, calling for the return of Banshees, Werecoyotes, Hellhounds, Kitsunes, and every other shapeshifter in the night,” the press release for the film revealed. “But only a Werewolf like Scott McCall, no longer a teenager yet still an Alpha, can gather both new allies and reunite trusted friends to fight back against what could be the most powerful and deadliest enemy they’ve ever faced.”
Posey, who has been pushing for Teen Wolf to be revived in some way for years, revealed that he was “excited to play this character again” a few years after the events of the finale.
“I think what I’m most excited for is to see them age. We were in high school for what seemed like 10 years,”. “I’m excited to see them age and get out of high school. High school was such a character in itself on the show, so I’m excited to see how it’s going to be without that sort of character of a school involved. It will be interesting.”
The musician noted that the series was able to leave such an impression because of the characters that joined the audience on each adventure.
“What really carried the show were the relationships, mostly between my character and Dylan O’Brien‘s character, Stiles. That to me is what really carried the show and what made people fall in love with it,” Posey added at the time. “And then we got to have a lot of fun on top of that with the supernatural element, the romantic element, the horror. I think as long as we have the element of a really great relationship, whether it’s friends or romantic, then everything else kind of falls into place.”

It Will Be Airing on a New Streaming Service
The film, which will be written by Davis, is set to premiere on Paramount+ in 2022.
Who Is In the ‘Teen Wolf’ Cast?
In February 2022, Paramount+ confirmed that Posey would be joined by Crystal Reed (Allison Argent), Holland Roden (Lydia Martin), Shelley Hennig (Malia Tate), Orny Adams (Coach Bobby Finstock, Linden Ashby (Sheriff Noah Stilinski) and JR Bourne (Chris Argent).
Also set to return are Colton Haynes (Jackson Whittemore), Ryan Kelley (Deputy Jordan Parrish), Melissa Ponzio (Melissa McCall), Seth Gilliam (Dr. Alan Deaton) and Dylan Sprayberry (Liam Dunbar).
O’Brien (Stiles Stilinski) and Arden Cho (Kira Yukimura) are not attached to the project.
In March 2022, Ian Bohen and Khylin Rhambo were cast as their existing characters, Peter and Mason, respectively. Vince Mattis, Nobi Nakanishi and Amy Lin Workman were also added to the lineup.
New Trailer Raises More Questions About Allison
The December 2022 trailer gave clues about Allison’s return — but just left fans with even more questions. Everyone has been having visions of her, and when Scott is attacked by her, she doesn’t recognize him. “Scott who?” she asks.
Argent doesn’t believe it’s his daughter, but Melissa thinks differently. “You have to find her and stop her. And help her remember who she was,” she tells Scott, seemingly referring to Allison.
When Will the ‘Teen Wolf’ Movie Be Released?
Cast members including Posey, Roden, Hennig, Reed, Haynes and Sprayberry announced during a panel at New York City Comic Con in October 2022 that the film would premiere on Paramount+ on January 26, 2023.
Fans Can Relive the Show Ahead of the Movie’s Debut
All 100 episodes of the original MTV series are available to stream on Paramount+.
Possible Surprise Appearances
Bohen revealed that he is still holding out hope for Derek and Peter to return.
“We would love to do that together, and I can absolutely see a world where we are reunited,” he said at the time. “I know they’re shooting here pretty soon, so you will have a definite yea or nay forthcoming for certain. But I feel positive about it. I wouldn’t want to see a movie where Derek and Peter weren’t in it.”
Dylan O’Brien Is Out
“The show couldn’t be more dear to me. It was the first thing I ever did I and so many people there are extremely dear to me,”. “It was something I was trying to make work, but it all happened very fast. We didn’t really know that it was happening and they kind of just threw it at us a little bit, which is fine because we all love the show. We were trying to figure it out.”
O’Brien revealed that he ultimately opted out of reprising his Teen Wolf role because of how the series ended. “I just decided it was left in a really good place for me and I still want to leave it there,” he continued. “I’m going to watch it the first night it comes out. I hope it f–king kicks ass, but I’m not going to be in it.”
Back on Set!
Paramount+ revealed in March 2022 that the cast had officially started filming, sharing snaps from day one on set. “Howling at this photo dump of Day 1 on the #TeenWolfMovie set. 🐺🎬,” the streaming platform wrote via Instagram. The pics included Posey wearing a leather jacket standing next to video prompter.
A close-up look at the high school locker room set revealed that the revival will return to where it all started, despite the pack graduating years ago.
Derek’s Back
“It’s about to be a HALE of a good time 🐺 @tylerhoechlin is returning for the #TeenWolfMovie on @paramountplus,” the production’s official Instagram account captioned a May 2022 Instagram snap of Tyler Hoechlin’s director’s chair.
Coming to an End
“That’s a WRAP on Teen Wolf: The Movie! 🎬 Congratulations to the entire cast and crew on bringing the best pack back together. 🐺 ,” the official Instagram account for the revival shared in May 2022 alongside photos from set.
A First Look
Paramount+ released the first teaser trailer in July 2022 for the highly-anticipated film, which will follow Scott as he reunites his pack in order to take on a mysterious new evil. “Set me free and we’ll play a new game,” an ominous voice promises as clips of Scott and his friends fighting against a terrifying, unseen force. “A game of chaos, strife and pain.” However, this new villain isn’t the only shocking thing Scott will have to face. “Allison! She’s alive and she’s back,” the true alpha cries at the end of the clip, while his ex-girlfriend walks away from a burning car.
Will Dylan O’Brien Make a Cameo?
“I don’t think there’s any truth to that rumor. What I’ve said is the truth, yeah, so I don’t know,”.
The Love and Monsters actor added that while Stiles may not be making an appearance, he was able to contribute to the film in another sense.
“My Jeep’s in it,” he revealed. “I lent them my Jeep for the movie. That’s the car my character drives in the show, yeah.”
