Movie News : The Lego Batman Movie has built on a strong opening weekend to remain at the top of the U.K. box office chart for a second week running.
The hit family animation, featuring Will Arnett as the voice of the iconic DC Comics character, beat erotic romance sequel Fifty Shades Darker to the top spot for the second time over the weekend (17-19Feb17).
The Lego Batman Movie, the follow-up to 2014’s The Lego Movie, earned $5.5 million (£4.4 million) in British cinemas.
Fifty Shades Darker, the second film adapted from E.L. James’ novels about a student who falls for a billionaire with a penchant for sadomasochism, came in second place with takings of $4.2 million (£3.4 million).
Animated musical comedy Sing remained in third place $2.6 million (£2.1 million), Keanu Reeves’ action caper John Wick: Chapter Two was the highest new entry in the U.K. chart at four, with $2.4 million (£1.9 million), and the top five was rounded out by Matt Damon’s fantasy epic The Great Wall with $2 million (£1.6million).
