The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent star, Nicolas Cage, seeks revenge in the new trailer for his new action-western movie, The Old Way

The first official trailer for the upcoming film The Old Way, a Western starring Nicolas Cage, is now out.

Nicolas Cage, seeks revenge in the new trailer for his new action-western, The Old Way. Nephew of famed director Francis Ford Coppola, Cage began his career in the early 80s with the comedy classic Fast Times at Ridgemont High and starred in such hits as Raising Arizona, Moonstruck, and Leaving Las Vegas. Unfortunately, the actor found himself facing significant financial trouble by the mid-2000s, owing the IRS over $14 million in back taxes. Since then, he took on numerous roles in movies of varying quality. However, in recent years, Cage has managed to work his way back on top with strong compelling performances in Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, Pig, and as a narcissistic version of himself in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.

The Old Way stars Cage alongside Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Noah Le Gros, Clint Howard, Kerry Knuppe, Nick Searcy, and Shiloh Fernandez. The film is directed by Brett Donowho, from a script written by Carl W. Lucas.

“Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage stars in his first-ever Western as Colton Briggs, a cold-blooded gunslinger turned respectable family man,” reads the official synopsis for the film. “When an outlaw and his gang put Colton and his family in peril, Colton is forced to take up arms with an unlikely partner — his 12-year-old daughter (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) — in this action-filled film that builds toward its fateful showdown with pulse-pounding suspense.”

With several strong roles in relatively recent unique independent films, including the action-horror Mandy, the Lovecraftian thriller Color Out of Space, and Michael Sarnoski’s well-regarded Pig, Cage’s career is looking stronger than ever. Up next for the actor is Butcher’s Crossing, the only other western in the actor’s long career. Based on the John Edward Williams novel of the same name, Cage takes the role of Miller, an experienced mountain man who leads a dangerous buffalo-hunting expedition into the wild. Although the film has already premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, no release date has been set.

In a break from his recent dramatic fare, Cage also has a couple of comedies on his slate. He is set to star as Count Dracula in Renfield from The Lego Batman Movie director, Chris McKay. Cage is also currently filming Dream Scenario, a comedy starring Michael Cera, Tim Meadows, and Julianne Nicholson.

For 30 years, Cage’s career has remained strong as he has built an impressive resume of acclaimed performances, racking up multiple nominations from prestigious associations and earning a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Leaving Las Vegas. His unique and unconventional approach to his characters results in performances that have truly stood out among his peers. Although there have been a few films of his that have garnered less-than-favorable reviews from both critics and fans, Cage has continued to challenge himself in his craft, taking his career in new directions. The Old Way appears to be no exception as Cage rides into a new genre with guns blazing.

The Old Way will release in select theaters on January 6, 2023, before moving to premium video on-demand services and digital stores a week later, on January 13, 2023.
