Venom 3 – All we know from potential release date, cast and more

Tom Hardy will be back as Eddie Brock and his alien partner Venom

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is set to bring back Tom Hardy’s symbiote-infused anti-hero alongside a new and dangerous villain in the form of Woody Harrelson’s Carnage.

Directed by Andy Serkis, the much-anticipated Sonyverse sequel will follow the story of Eddie Brock’s adjustment to his newfound life with Venom. Marketing for Let There Be Carnage already offered a glimpse of how the unusual duo will fine-tune their relationship, but the arrival of Carnage will once again make life difficult for both of them.

44-year-old actor Tom Hardy is set to reprise his role as Eddie Brock/Venom in the blockbuster Marvel superhero film series, and he’s already revaealed news that a script exists, which shows that he will once again be assisting screenwriter Kelly Marcel with the story.

Hardy teased that the third film will be the Symbiote’s “last dance”, suggesting it could be his last outing.

Venom 3 plot

Aside from the fact that Eddie Brock is now a fugitive, we don’t know anything more about what the threequel could have in store for him and Venom.

Of course, the question of whether he’ll finally go head-to-head with Spider-Man won’t go away and could happen in the next movie. No Way Home saw Eddie/Venom briefly transported to the MCU, but he was back in his own universe by the end of it.

Whilst little else is known about the plot, late last year, the ‘Inception’ star hinted at a follow-up to 2021’s sequel ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’.

He said: “These things [usually] come in threes. If there’s going to be a new one – and they depend heavily on the success of each individual one, so you can’t count on them ever happening again – every one has got to be as if it was the last one.

“But I think it’s really important, if you go into something, thinking that one, two and three are the same … the same story, the same film. So that you don’t surprise yourself by being caught out by suddenly having to do a third from nowhere.”

Eddie last made an appearance, albeit brief, in 2021’s ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ in a Venom-Spidey crossover.

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ scribes Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna recently commented on Venom’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the cameo, which saw Eddie zapped back to his own world with a dreg of the symbiote left in his wake.

The former said: “It leaves the door open for possibilities.

“As opposed to just seeing him go back and not seeing any symbiote. So it just allows for some exciting possibilities in the future.”

And when quizzed on the possibility of a showdown between Venom and Spider-Man, McKenna said: “I have no idea. That is above our pay grade. We are part of a bigger, larger universe that we are not the gods of, we’re just mortals in.

“I think it was a fun idea that the sixth [member of] the Sinister Six gets stuck in a bar and doesn’t get out of there, but maybe he leaves a little something behind. Again, we’re not masters of that course of that next adventure.”

It’s not yet clear whether Venom: Let There Be Carnage’s Andy Serkis will return to direct the threequel. However, he has said previously that he would be up for it: “I mean, yeah, of course. It’s such a wonderful world to play in.”

If Venom 3 goes into production in 2022, we could well see the threequel in cinemas in 2024, potentially in October 2024 as the previous two movies were released in October 2018 and October 2021. That’s speculation from us for now though, so watch this space for further updates on its release date.

As we wait for further details to be revealed, here’s everything you need to know about Venom 3.
