Who Will Direct The Next Batman Movie?

Actor Ben Affleck has chosen to step down as the director of “The Batman” and remain on as a producer and star of the project, so who will take over we wonder?

Affleck is still on board to play the superhero, but sources close to the talent said Affleck and Warner Bros. discussed how to make the best film possible and this was the decision both parties came to.

“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions,” Affleck said in a statement.

“Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film.

“I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”

Before Batman Begins, the general approach to superhero movies was to indulge in the more cartoonish aspects of the source material. Past Batman films were peppered with ridiculously over-the-top acting and stories, while Superman generally found himself getting the same treatment. Outside of X-Men, there were few comic book movies that took themselves seriously enough to tell an interesting story. Then The Dark Knight trilogy came along to throw us all for a loop.

Thanks goodness for Christopher Nolan shaping the fiture of Batman films, however he publicist has denied a return to directing anymore more Batman when approached by MarkMeets Entertainment.

Potential directors in the frame now include…

Duncan Jones — Another new director who is among the best emerging talents in filmmaking,

Nicolas Winding Refn — His film Drive got rave reviews and was quite popular with audiences, and rightly so.

Guy Ritchie — Having racked up a fat $1 billion in box office with two Sherlock Holmes movies, Ritchie definitely has to be one of WB’s current favorite directors.

David Yates — Having steered the last four films in the Harry Potter franchise, Yates has probably brought WB the most money of any single filmmaker.

Matthew Vaughn — A versatile director, and his short directing resume is nonetheless a good one, including one of the best entries in the X-Men franchise.

Zack Snyder — That’s right, the go-to superhero film director who was able to step in when others feared to tread with Watchmen and later with Man of Steel.

Darren Aronofsky — The final name on our list is one from the past, and one of the most often discussed “what-if” scenarios among Batman fans. Before Christopher Nolan came into Batman’s life, there was a time when fan hopes for a dark, serious Batman adaptation seemed on the verge of coming true.
