Will Smith films Bad Boys 4 movie scenes in Atlanta

Actor Will Smith, who recently cheered on his children as they performed at Coachella, was spotted in Atlanta filming the upcoming fourth installment of the Bad Boys franchise. Smith will once again reprise his role as Detective Mike Lowrey in the action-comedy film series.

The 54-year-old actor looked sharp on set, wearing a button-up shirt, a bow tie, and dress pants. He interacted with the film’s crew and appeared to be enjoying his time on the project’s set.

Smith made his debut as Lowrey in the first Bad Boys movie, which was released in 1995. He also appeared in the movie’s two sequels, which premiered in 2003 and 2020, respectively. In all three films, Smith acted alongside Martin Lawrence, who portrays Detective Marcus Burnett.

A spinoff series based on the films, called L.A.’s Finest, premiered in 2019 but did not feature participation from either of the movie’s longtime stars.

In 2020, it was confirmed that both Smith and Lawrence were expected to reprise their roles as Lowrey and Burnett in the upcoming fourth film. The feature will also include stars such as Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, and Paola Nunez.

Production on the movie was said to have been paused after Smith became the subject of controversy regarding his slapping of Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards ceremony, causing several of his other projects to stall. However, Sony Chairman Tom Rothman confirmed that the Bad Boys 4 project was still being actively developed.

Smith officially confirmed his participation in the movie alongside Lawrence in February 2023. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were also announced as the project’s directors. The filmmaking duo previously directed the third feature in the franchise, which was met with a generally positive reception from audiences.

Physical production on the upcoming feature commenced last month, with filming taking place in both Miami and Atlanta. As of now, the fourth Bad Boys film does not have a scheduled release date
