Singer Charli XCX has revealed that all of the songs that feature on her own record were made with the intention of making herself happy.
The 22-year-old singer and songwriter explained that she really felt free to experiment with the sound on her album, ‘Sucker’, and made sure she wasn’t preoccupied with what her fans would think of the songs:
“I’m honest, I’m not even sure if some of my fans are going to like it. I didn’t make this music to please people, that’s just not why I do it. I don’t think about my audience when I make music. The one thing I’m always thinking about is how I want to constantly change. Who knows what the f*** is going to happen with the radio? Like, I’ve never understood it, so who knows?”
The ‘Boom Clap’ rising star went onto add that she is very proud of the record, which is all that matters to her: “I’m really proud of this album, and I like it. That’s all I care about, really.”
Charli XCX’s hit song “Boom Clap” could have sounded very different if it had been recorded by the pop star it was originally offered to!
“We sent the song to her people and I don’t think she ever heard it. But they were like, ‘This song isn’t cool enough for Hilary.’ And we were really sad about that! So I was like, ‘F–k it. I’m going to sing it,'” Charli recalled.
