Chris Martin has said that he would love to write for Rihanna’s next album.

The Coldplay frontman Chris Martin told American radio station Fresh New York that he has asked the ‘What Now’ singer if he can contribute to her next record.

“I don’t even think she asked,” he said. “I just said, ‘Please can I try something?'”

Martin added that although he is keen to return to the studio to work on music for the popstar, he doesn’t know if his work will even make it onto her album.

“She has so many amazing people writing for her,” he said. “It’s like trying to win American Idol, getting a song on Rihanna’s album.”

The pair previously collaborated on 2012’s ‘Princess of China’, which reached number four in the UK singles chart.

Rihanna is currently on tour with rapper Eminem with their joint Monster tour, and is preparing to launch her first men’s fragrance in September.

Martin recently said that he is still “very close” to Gwyneth Paltrow following their split.
