The iconic music group, Duran Duran, renowned for hits like ‘Wild Boys,’ is set to launch a new album titled ‘Danse Macabre.’ In a creative twist, the band has infused their distinct style into a range of covers, including Billie Eilish’s ‘Bury A Friend,’ Talking Heads’ ‘Psycho Killer’ featuring Victoria De Angelis from Maneskin, The Rolling Stones’ classic ‘Paint It Black,’ Siouxsie and the Banshees’ ‘Spellbound,’ and more.
The Origins of a Unique Creation
The inception of the new album was triggered by a remarkable Halloween-themed show in Las Vegas the previous year. This extravaganza in the heart of the United States spurred the band’s creative energy, which they then channeled into the studio to craft their sixteenth studio album. Throughout this process, Duran Duran managed to assemble a collection of captivating covers.
Collaborating once again with Mr. Hudson as the producer, the album’s tracklist boasts specially curated versions of songs from various artists, encompassing Billie Eilish’s ‘Bury A Friend,’ Talking Heads’ ‘Psycho Killer,’ The Rolling Stones’ ‘Paint It Black,’ Siouxsie and the Banshees’ ‘Spellbound,’ and even The Specials’ ‘Ghost Town.’
Scheduled for release on October 27th (with pre-orders already available), the album’s title track, ‘Danse Macabre,’ has been unveiled as the lead single. Nick Rhodes, the band’s keyboard player, shared his thoughts on the album.
Celebrating Halloween with Music
Rhodes explained, “The song ‘Danse Macabre’ celebrates the joy and madness of Halloween. It is the title track of our forthcoming album, which gathers together an unusual mix of cover versions, reworked Duran Duran songs, and several new compositions.” The inspiration for this intriguing project came from a performance in Las Vegas on October 31st, 2022. The band took the opportunity to create a truly unique event, combining captivating gothic visuals with a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack of horror and humor.
The experience of that evening propelled Duran Duran to explore this thematic direction further and transform it into a full-fledged album centered around Halloween. The album’s creation followed an organic and spontaneous process, remarkably swift compared to their previous works, and it yielded results that exceeded everyone’s expectations. Reflecting on their artistic essence, Rhodes added, “Emotion, mood, style, and attitude have always been at the heart of Duran Duran’s DNA. We search for light in the darkness and darkness in the light, and I feel we have somehow managed to capture the essence of all of that in this project.”
Simon Le Bon, another member of the band, chimed in, saying, “It’s about a crazy Halloween party. It’s supposed to be fun!” These words emphasize the lighthearted yet evocative nature of the project.
Insights from Band Members

The music packs a real punch.” This album, in many ways, serves as a mirror reflecting the evolution and depth of the band’s musical identity over the years.
