Mark Ronson is the new patron of Amy Winehouse Foundation

Uptown Funk star Mark Ronson has said becoming a patron of his late friend Amy Winehouse’s charity is a “big deal.”

The 40-year-old music producer is to lead a special performance to the singer, whom he worked with on the album Back To Black, at the fourth annual Amy Winehouse Foundation gala tomorrow night.

Ronson and Winehouse struck up a friendship after they collaborated on her second album in 2006, before her death in July 2011.

He said: “Becoming a patron of the Amy Winehouse Foundation is a big deal to me. It’s very important to help the great work that they are already doing, both with substance misuse and helping talented disadvantaged youth through music.

“Amy’s music touched so many and also helped them – and now through the Foundation, it continues to help people.”

Hip-hop star Nas and producer Salaam Remi, who were also friends with Amy, will also become patrons of the charity, while Ella Henderson, Jess Glynne, Foxes, The Voice 2014 winner Jermaine Jackman and Vanessa Feltz will be named ambassadors for the Amy Winehouse Foundation.

Chart-topping artist Glynne said: “I’m delighted to be an ambassador for the Amy Winehouse Foundation. Amy was the main inspiration for me to pursue my personal dreams to be a singer and songwriter.”

Henderson, who found fame on ITV’s The X Factor, added: “Through the Foundation, Amy continues to inspire even more people, so it’s a great honour to become an ambassador and help continue her legacy.”

The Amy Winehouse Foundation Gala, which aims to raise funds for the charity’s programmes and support vulnerable young people, takes place at the Savoy in London on tomorrow night.
