Prince has revealed that he plans to perform at KOKO tonight and Ronnie Scott’s tomorrow (17th) in London.
This follows a couple of 2-hour-set performances on Valentine’s Day at King’s Cross, King’s Place in London, and other guerilla gigs in Shepherd’s Bush and Camden.
The Kings Place concerts, in front of two sets of audiences of around 400 people, cost £70 per ticket. Previous shows were just £10 each. The King’s Place venue is directly below The Guardian newspaper offices.
Prince performed his classics ‘Raspberry Beret’, ‘Take Me With U’, and ‘U Got the Look’ accoustically.
Covers followed including versions of Bill Withers’s ‘Who Is He (And What Is He To You?)’ and the Clash’s ‘Train In Vain’.
There was a short Q&A session in which he was asked the question “With all of your experience, what do you choose to live by?”, at which he told a story about how funk innovator, Larry Graham, helped him discover God.
The second full-set finished with his classic ‘Purple Rain’ and indeed, London was in the grips of a hurricane-strong storm whilst the sets were in full force.
Whilst onstage at King’s Place the singer announced that he plans to play Manchester twice next week, as well as London’s KOKO and famous Ronnie Scott’s jazz club in Soho.
Prince will present the first BRIT trophy at this year’s event. It is not known if he will perform on the show with 3RDEYEGIRL. He has not been on the BRITs since 2006.
