The X Factor star Sam Callahan has said that he wants to be a “credible” musician and plans to write his own material.
The hunky 19-year-old insisted that he is proud of his looks but wants fans to focus on his music.
Sam said “I embrace all that stuff.
“If I didn’t want it I wouldn’t work on myself to look that way, but I want to be a credible musician.
“I wouldn’t be here if I just wanted to do half-naked photo shoots.
“I write my own music….I have since I was about 13.”
Callahan admitted that his vocal talent is not his strongest skill.
He explained: “I definitely haven’t got the strongest vocals in the competition.
“[But] I think everyone has different things that they can fight with and use to their advantage….I’ve got a decent voice, I will sing to the best of my ability.”
He added: “I love to perform and I will show everybody that I’ve got something else you can’t be taught in a singing lesson.”
X Factor finalist Sam Callahan got on the wrong side of Gary Barlow with his disco night rendition of a Take That chart-topper.
The Essex teenager was surrounded by female dancers dressed as boxers as he performed Relight My Fire – originally a hit for Dan Hartman before Barlow and the boys took it to number one in 1993.
But while he might have won the support of the audience and mentor Louis Walsh, Barlow was visibly unimpressed as the performance unfolded.
Afterwards he told Callahan: ‘You are a lovely lad, you are keen to learn, but I hated that performance.’
Barlow added: ‘You are not the best singer in this competition and the problem for you is that everybody else is so much better than you.’
