US megastar Bruce Springsteen scored tenth UK chart-topping album with his latest release ‘High Hopes’ last night.
The ‘Born In The USA’ rocker now joins the same league as Robbie Williams, The Rolling Stones, U2 and Elvis Presley who have all also accrued ten chart-topping albums in the UK.
The Beatles who have topped the UK chart 15 times hold the record for most No. 1 UK albums
‘High Hopes’ is the follow up to 2012’s ‘Wrecking Ball’ which also debuted at No. 1.
Last week’s No. 1 from Ellie Goulding has now been displaced with ‘Halcyon’ slipping to No. 2.
The rest of the top five is made up by the visual album ‘Beyoncé’ slipping one place to No. 3, Bastille’s ‘Bad Blood’ up one to No. 4 and Gary Barlow’s ‘Since I Saw You Last’ falling two to No. 5.
Other than Springsteen’s ‘High Hopes’ the only other new entry to this week’s album chart comes from Irish singer/songwriter James Vincent McMorrow whose second LP ‘Post Tropical’ has landed at No. 28.
Moving onto the single news:
Pharrell Williams is spending his third non-consecutive week at No. 1 with his single ‘Happy’.
The Oscar-nominated track keeps going from strength to strength as the past seven days have seen the biggest week of sales yet for the ‘Depicable Me 2’ number.
118,000 copies of ‘Happy’ have been purchased this week alone and has now sold over half a million units in total.
A further trio of non-movers in the top five come from Pitbull and Ke$ha at No. 2 with ‘Timber’, Avicii’s ‘Hey Brother’ at No. 3 and Jason Derulo’s ‘Trumpets’ at No. 4.
The top five is completed by a new entry from Elyar Fox with ‘Do It All Over Again’ debuting at No. 5.
Another new entry to this week’s chart comes from a superstar duo. ‘Can’t Remember To Forget You’ by Shakira and Rihanna has charted at No. 11.
High climbers in the chart this week come in the form of ‘Lover Not A Fighter’ by Tinie Tempah and Labrinth which has moved up 15 places to No. 27. Beyoncé’s ‘XO’ has also ascended the chart by advancing 8 positions to reach No. 37.
