Best Netflix Originals Ever

What Makes Netflix Successful

Netflix was founded in 1997, and over the last 25 years, it has evolved and grown into the mega-million business it is today. The company did not start as a streaming service since streaming did not exist and people were still wary of the internet itself. Today the company is worth over $146 billion with over 200 million subscribers in over 200 countries. Not bad for a company many said would fall flat.

  • Their first ingredient of success is adaptation, Netflix is a dynamic company that is innovative and flexible. They have passed on this flexibility to the customer experience, you can watch on a phone on a TV, on a laptop, or on all three screens. You can download an entire series and watch it later or stream it directly.
  • In 2019 Netflix invested over $12 billion into creating original content but this did not mean they neglected other viewer favourites. They provide a balanced variety for every kind of viewer.
  • Netflix has become the master of algorithms, after just one series or even one addition to ‘My List’ and they have curated an entire library of recommendations for you. The iGaming industry has also started using logarithms effectively, after playing one card game at an online casino and they have ‘games for you’ at your next login. Most of the time their recommendations are on point.

Why Create Original Content

When Netflix started they sourced materials from other producers and this worked for a while, but soon other streaming platforms copied the model and this made producers question their loyalty to Netflix. So, what would set them apart if Netflix was buying the same licences as Hulu or Disney? That is when they ventured into original content and this became the game changer.

  1. Stranger Things (2016)

This is as original as original gets, the title itself lends to the air of mystery and intrigue and the fact that the characters are middle school children makes it more interesting. The 80’s outfits, haircuts and music is enough to make anyone nostalgic. Stranger Things showed us that music is not only universal but never dies.

  1. Dark

This German sci-fi had everyone questioning everything, from the formation of the universe to the scientific theories we were taught in school. It centres around a small village where a time travel mystery spanning centuries takes place. Dark is so out there, you start questioning the very fundamentals of the universe. It has superb acting and cinematics, this is one of those shows you may want to watch twice to make sure you haven’t lost your mind.

  1. The Crown

If ever there was a controversial, addictive, and must-watch show then this was it. It has won numerous awards and attracted a lot of critique from the royals on inaccuracies and portrayal of certain individuals and storylines. The casting director did a superb job in cast selection, especially for the role of the queen; Imelda Staunton, Claire Foy, and Olivia Colman gave us flawless and captivating acting.
