Singer-singwriter Ellie Goulding insists that she is single – and happy to stay that way.

The ‘How Long Will I Love You’ singer has been linked in recent months to both Dougie Poynter of McFly and One Direction’s Niall Horan but says she no longer feels that there must be a man in her life.

Cosmo quoted Ellie as saying: “I put men on a pedestal, they’d be everything. I decided to remedy that, and that’s why I’m single now.

“I’ve realised I don’t need a guy. I’ve got amazing, awesome, stupid friends in the best way possible.”

The 27-year-old – who celebrated her first UK number one with Burn last summer – has previously dated a DJ, a record producer and an actor but revealed that she is happier being her own person now.

“A lot of despair in breaking up with someone is thinking about how you’re going to cope in the future,” Goulding told the magazine.

“But not being completely present prevents you from being happy and alive.

“As soon as you stop relying so heavily on what happened in the past, you end up being able to deal.”
