Sonic fans! Sequels are in abundance nowadays, with popular and beloved stories carrying on into more movies. This is great news, for the most part, as fans can see more of what they love. Many solo films are becoming franchises, which can always cause a stir…
The Game Awards honcho Geoff Keighley also tweeted to not only confirm rumours that Sonic’s next game will feature, but also that both Jim Carrey and Ben Schwartz — who play Robotnik and Sonic respectively — will be in attendance at Thursday’s awards event to introduce a ‘World Premiere’ of a trailer.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is making progress with production, as not only has an amazing new poster been released, but a trailer for the sequel will be revealed tomorrow (December 10th, 2021) in the UK.
Sonic The Hedgehog (2020) was a funny, entertaining adventure featuring everyone’s favourite blue alien Hedgehog. The movie followed Sonic as he was sent from his beautiful home to Earth after being chased down on his home planet.
From then, Sonic works hard to keep himself hidden from humanity; he has an underground home, filled with things he has collected over the years, including a ping-pong table that he uses all on his own…
However, he is discovered by Tom (James Marsden), who is of course baffled but willing to help Sonic recover his magic rings in order to leave Earth, so Doctor Eggman (Jim Carrey) doesn’t catch him.
Despite some of the changes made when adapting the movie from the popular Sonic video games, the film did rather well as it was a genuinely funny adventure.
Now, news of the second movie is beginning to surface, and the poster alone looks incredible. The stunning artwork shows Sonic riding a Cropduster, with iconic character Tails flying. We knew Tails would be in the sequel, as he arrived on Earth in a post-credit scene from the first movie.
Not only is Tails making his debut in this particular film franchise, it seems that Doctor Eggman is back. Sonic The Hedgehog saw the villain being sent to a mushroom planet, as a type of punishment for his actions.
The poster, however, sees Carrey’s Doctor Eggman in the background, seemingly chasing Sonic and Tails. This poses questions about how the baddie escaped the world he was trapped in, and what his plans are this time around.
With the poster already out, the next thing audiences will see is the trailer. That will hopefully hint at how Eggman escaped, and perhaps show a glimpse of the reunion between the blue Hedgehog and yellow Fox.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is scheduled to release on April 8th, 2022!
