Movie trailer breakdown: First look at The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard

The sequel to the 2017 action movie ‘The Hitman’s Bodyguard’will be released this year, MarkMeets can reveal and we can’t wait!

Featuring a stellar cast including Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson, it was only a matter of time until the pair would be meeting up once again. The upcoming American action comedy film directed by Patrick Hughes and written by Tom O’Connor and Brandon and Phillip Murphy

The plot for the first film is simple enough; Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson) is a notorious hitman and is very hard to get a hold of; however, Interpol set up a trap regarding his wife, and manage to catch him.

Kincaid has information that is needed at International Criminal Court to prove that the Dictator, Vladislav Dukhovich (Gary Oldman), is not the good guy he is pretending to be.

He must be taken from Manchester in the UK, to the Hague in the Netherlands; and Michael Bryce (Reynolds) is the one to get him there. Kincaid is only agreeing to help because his wife, Sonia (Salma Hayek), will go free if he does.

Now it seems, the trio of troublemakers are set to appear again in 2021 according to a exclusive media kit we saw.

In The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, Bryce seems to have given up his dream of being the world’s best bodyguard, and is advised to take some time off and enjoy some downtime.

When he finally does so, he is interrupted by Sonia telling him that the mafia have kidnapped Darius; and she needs his help to save him.

It seems once again Bryce is forced into violence and surrounded by death to help someone he despises; while Sonia doesn’t care one bit about killing those in her way.

As we know from the first film, Reynolds and Jackson make a brilliant comedy duo, and Hayek did a great job as a headstrong characrer who knows how to take control; this time it seems Hayek will be on the front line with Reynolds. It will be great to see those two in action together this time around.

Despite Sonia’s move to join Bryce as the two main characters this time, the movie does seem a little similar to the first in the sense that Bryce is being dragged into something he doesn’t really want any involvement in. With that said, seeing Hayek in a central role will help to differentiate it from its predecessor.

You will see from the trailer when it comes to the other actors from the first movie, it doesn’t seem Bryce’s love interest and Interpol agent Amelia Roussel (Elodie Yung) will be returning, but it is rumoured that Morgan Freeman will be making an appearance; as who yet, we’re not quite sure.

Antonio Banderas will also be in this action-packed movie, seemingly as the big bad wolf who has a hand in Darius after he’s captured him.

Patrick Hughes will be back in the director’s chair for the upcoming sequel, and will no doubt do a great job just as he did for the 2017 movie.

The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard will be in cinemas June 16th, 2021.
