Popular gaming movies that we hope to see sequels of

Some movies just leave you wanting more. Gambling and casino films are especially good at sparking curiosity, thanks to their larger-than-life characters, risky decisions and worlds where fortunes can change in an instant. From slick casino heists to tense poker games, there are plenty of films that could easily inspire another chapter.

Ocean’s Eleven

Few films have made the casino look quite as exciting as Ocean’s Eleven. Steven Soderbergh’s 2001 heist brings together George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon and Don Cheadle as part of a team attempting to infiltrate the Mirage, Bellagio and MGM Grand.

The combination of elaborate planning, memorable characters and a casino setting makes it an obvious choice for another outing. A new story could bring the gang back together for another ambitious job, and this would be perfect for an online casino game that would like to see familiar faces again.

Rounders

Matt Damon plays Mike McDermott in Rounders, a card player who has tried to leave poker behind before his old friend Worm, played by Edward Norton, comes back into his life. Before long, Mike is drawn back into the gambling world and heads towards Las Vegas and the World Series of Poker.

The film remains a favourite because it focuses on the people behind the cards as much as the gambling itself. A sequel could pick up with Mike and explore where his skills have taken him since the original story.

The Hustler and The Colour of Money

Paul Newman’s Fast Eddie Felson is one of the most memorable characters in gambling cinema. The Hustler introduced the younger Eddie as he challenged Minnesota Fats in a high-stakes pool game, while The Colour of Money returned to the character 25 years later.

The second film saw Eddie teach Tom Cruise’s Vincent how to navigate the world of pool, betting, and hustling. Another sequel could continue that story while giving fans another chance to see the character in action.

Casino

Martin Scorsese’s Casino is another film where a sequel would be fascinating, although the original leaves little room for a simple continuation. Robert De Niro plays Sam “Ace” Rothstein, a gambling handicapper asked by the Chicago Outfit to run the Tangiers Casino in 1970s Las Vegas.

With its mix of casino life, crime, and complicated relationships, this world offers plenty of material for another movie. A follow-up could explore a different period or set of characters while keeping the same dangerous atmosphere.

Mississippi Grind

Mississippi Grind follows Gerry, played by Ben Mendelsohn, and Ryan Reynolds’ character as they travel across the South, gambling their way through casinos, horse racing, Texas Hold ‘Em and slot machines.

The characters make the film stand out, and another movie could give audiences more time with their unpredictable partnership. Sometimes, the best sequel idea is simply to put an entertaining pair back on the road and see what happens next.
