Premier League 2025/26: Haaland tipped to enjoy a prolific season with Manchester City

Norwegian superstar Erling Braut Haaland has been tipped to blow his rivals away in the race to win the Premier League Golden Boot award this season.

After scoring nine goals in seven games, the Manchester City striker is the favourite to top the Premier League goals table according to Spreadex. Here is the current top scorers list:

  • Erling Braut Haaland – Manchester City – 9
  • Antoine Semenyo – Bournemouth – 6
  • Igor Thiago – Brentford – 4
  • Jaiden Anthony – Burnley – 4
  • Hugo Ekitike – Liverpool – 3
  • Ismaila Sarr – Crystal Palace – 3
  • Richarlison – Tottenham Hotspur – 3
  • Iliman Ndiaye – Everton – 3
  • Enzo Fernandez – Chelsea -3
  • Nick Woltenmade – Newcastle United – 3
  • Wilson Isidor – Sunderland – 3
  • Viktor Gyokeres – Arsenal – 3
  • Moises Caicedo – Chelsea – 3
  • Jarrod Bowen – West Ham United – 3

Haaland won the award in 2022/23 and 2023/24, but finished third in the standings behind Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak last season.

Read on as we look at Haaland’s chances of claiming the prestigious prize this time around, before assessing which players could upset the odds.

Haaland gunning to knock Salah off his perch

Haaland’s reputation for being the difference-maker for Man City took a knock last season, despite him weighing in with 22 goals.

He bagged 63 league goals over the previous two campaigns, helping Pep Guardiola’s side claim top spot in the Premier League on each occasion.

Haaland did not reach the same heights in 2024/25, but has started the current campaign looking like a man who is desperate to prove a point.

Heading into City’s most recent game, he had never previously scored at Brentford. Just nine minutes into the match, he bagged a superb winning goal.

He has now scored at 22 of the 23 stadiums he has played at in the Premier League, the highest ratio of any player in the history of the competition.

Haaland could complete the full set when Man City visit Liverpool next February, and it would be a brave move to back against him achieving the feat.

However, his primary aim will be to fire City to the Premier League title and reclaim the Golden Boot after missing out on both prizes last season.

Arsenal star could be the biggest threat to Haaland

New Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres has made a steady start to life in the Premier League and could be the main threat to Haaland in the Golden Boot race.

He has scored three goals this season and has been tipped to end the season with 15.5 – 17 goals. However, that prediction could be a little conservative.

Gyokeres registered 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting CP to established a reputation as one of the most feared strikers in Europe.

With Arsenal implementing a direct style of play and a midfield built to get the best out of him, breaking through the 20-goal barrier is entirely feasible.

The Swedish international seems to be the most realistic challenger to Haaland given the doubts surrounding many of the other potential contenders.

Salah topped the charts with 29 goals for Liverpool last season, but he has been tipped to drop to 12.5 – 14 goals this term.

New signings Isak and Hugo Ekitike will likely steal Salah’s thunder, while his participation in the Africa Cup of Nations will hinder his cause.

Manchester United’s Benjamin Sesko has scored just two league goals this season, but he could step things up as the campaign progresses.

While each of the aforementioned players will be eager to make their mark, Haaland will be tough to step in his quest to win the Golden Boot for the third time.
