Progress Play, one of the biggest iGaming platform providers since 2012, has decided to test the sweepstakes waters.

Announced this month, the legendary company will be launching a turnkey sweepstakes casino platform, which was previewed for the first time at last week’s SBC Summit Lisbon.

It marks what’s already been a busy year for Progress Play, who teamed up with Playtech earlier in the year to roll out a new bingo platform, now available across 120 gambling sites in the UK.

The sweepstakes casino announcement from Progress Play initially came as a surprise, as the sweepstakes market is currently under a lot of legal scrutiny.

A growing number of states are actively trying to ban sweepstakes casinos, while many popular game providers, such as Pragmatic Play, have pulled their games from these sites.

With everything going on, it’s certainly a risky time for the company to enter the sweepstakes space, yet it could also prove to be quite lucrative.

Progress Play’s Sweepstakes Casino Platform Will Go Live “In Weeks”

Progress Play has confirmed its new sweepstakes casino platform will be live by October at the latest.

Before going live, it’s expected a significant number of sweepstakes casinos will have snapped it up, with many new operators on sweepstakecasinobonuses.com also likely to adopt it over the coming months and years.

The platform itself is, unsurprisingly, sticking with the player-favorite Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins system. Those looking to just play casino games for fun will be able to use Gold Coins, while the prize chasers can go with Sweeps Coins.

In an Instagram post, Progress Play has also promised its new system will have:

Geolocation
Age verification
40+ providers of excellent social casino games

If one thing is for certain, it sounds like this will give the sweepstakes casino market a much-needed shot in the arm, with the iGaming vertical having had a rough year to say the least.

What’s also obvious is that Progress Play has designed the platform for sweepstakes casinos seeking compliance and legal safety.

With all the controversy surrounding sweepstakes casinos at the moment, seamless features like geolocation and age verification will, smartly, give them much greater legal protection.

As for the actual games, Progress Play’s sweepstakes platform will feature popular titles from the likes of BGaming, Evoplay, and Hacksaw Gaming, all of which have already put pen-to-paper to become suppliers.

A “Billion-Euro Market” That Progress Play Can’t Resist

Since 2020, back during the COVID-19 pandemic, sweepstakes casinos have become incredibly popular.

The likes of Stake.us, Chumba Casino, and WOW Vegas have millions of combined players, and many of these players have outright ditched traditional online casinos in favor of them.

However, the sweepstakes casino industry is highly controversial due to the fact it operates in a legal grey area, which has left many companies scared to enter the market in fear of legal problems.

This hasn’t stopped Progress Play, though, who stated on Instagram they want to take advantage of a “€ billion market most operators ignore”, recognizing that “international players spend 3.2x more on sweepstakes than traditional online casinos.”

Progress Play CEO Itai Lowenstein also delved into more detail about his company’s pro-sweepstakes move:

“This launch represents far more than technological innovation. We’re rewriting the rulebook on operator success in sweepstakes gaming. From content frameworks to our player retention architecture, we’re not just providing tools, we’re building long-term winning partnerships in this high-growth sector.”

It’s somewhat surprising that a key figure in the iGaming industry like Progress Play didn’t opt to enter the sweepstakes space a little earlier. After all, between 2020 and 2024, the sweepstakes market was, quite literally, booming, so for them to enter the market now of all times is a little late.

The sweepstakes casino market itself, though, is still doing great, with an estimated €7bn spent by players on Gold Coins in 2024. But unfortunately for operators, legal problems over the past year or so have left the industry a little less stable than it was before.

Michigan and Montana have outright banned sweepstakes casinos, while big states like New York and California are also pushing to have them outlawed.

Not to mention, a large number of sweepstakes casinos, including the highly popular Chumba Casino and Luckyland Slots, have had to raise their minimum player age from 18 to 21 following increased legal pressure, leading to significant loss of revenue.

With all that said, if sweepstakes casinos can make it out the other side and remain completely legal in the vast majority of states, the sweepstakes vertical will be set for a much stronger 2026, especially now that Progress Play is releasing what looks like it will be an excellent new platform.

The Risk Could Pull Off for Progress Play

If the rollout of Progress Play’s turnkey, dual-currency sweepstakes casino platform is a huge success, as most expect it to be, then the risk for them will almost certainly be worth it.

What’s clear to see from recent trends is that the sweepstakes casino market has taken a hit. From states passing anti-sweepstakes bills to popular game providers pulling their games from these sites, it’s been a tricky year for the iGaming vertical.

But with Progress Play, seemingly, going all in all sweepstakes casinos for the future, it’ll be interesting to see what happens. This could be the start of something big, with plenty of sweepstakes casinos set to adopt the exciting new platform from the company.
