Dame Arlene Phillips was the first celebrity to be voted out of Gwrych Castle and has revealed what happened when the camp was evacuated during Storm Arwen

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! contestant Dame Arlene Phillips has revealed what happened when the show was unexpectedly taken off air for three days and the camp was evacuated.

The 78-year-old was the first contestant to be voted off the 2021 series and has explained the aftermath of Storm Arwen which saw extreme weather rip through Gwrych Castle and disrupt production.

The former Strictly Come Dancing judge divulged what really happened when the contestants left camp.

Arlene said: “We definitely didn’t get our phones back, I wish.

“The only thing we had to watch was Netflix, no news, no family contact, nothing.

“We spent a day in the castle, we didn’t know where we were going to go, what was going to happen.
She cheekily added: “For me it was great because I managed to do my roots and that was like the biggest thrill of a lifetime to go back without my roots showing.”

Arlene was voted off the show on Sunday night after 13 days and said she was excited to see her family.

She explained that for her the experience was all about “overcoming fear” as she revealed to Ant and Dec she’d never camped before and was afraid of so many things.

Asked if it was more difficult than expected, the former Strictly Come Dancing judge said: “Much harder. I psyched myself up, I was so prepared for it.
