I believe in adopting a coaching style that balances high expectations with fairness. I demand 100% effort from everyone, and in return, I give my own 100%. However, work isn’t meant to be a relentless grind. I strive to inject a sense of enjoyment into our tasks while keeping the team’s focus firmly on our goals and the company’s success. Our workplace should be an enjoyable, fulfilling environment that regularly acknowledges achievements.
The dynamics of self-leadership are akin to leading a team, but in smaller businesses, holding oneself accountable can be challenging. Yet, it’s a daily necessity, because if you can’t motivate yourself, who will?
In this article, we’ll explore ten fundamental principles for coaching your team, whether it’s a team of employees or your own self, to greatness.
1. Lead by Example
One of the most valuable lessons I learned from Mark Boardman, the best boss I’ve ever had, is the importance of leading by example. He earned the unwavering loyalty of his employees through years of exemplary leadership. Mark is a true leader, demonstrating a strong work ethic and treating people with respect. His actions spoke louder than words, inspiring others to follow suit.
2. Maintain Positivity in All Circumstances

Honesty is a core value that must be practiced consistently, both in your professional and personal life. You cannot expect your team to embrace honesty if you don’t embody it yourself. Upholding honesty in your family and community life is equally essential, as it directly impacts your ethical standing at work.

Education should be a perpetual pursuit, whether it involves staying updated on industry trends or acquiring new skills. Formal degrees aren’t the only route to learning; reading books, attending lectures, or simply nurturing curiosity in daily life can stimulate your intellect.
