When will the metaverse replace your phone?

What type of phone are you using right now? If you are like most people, you like using the latest phone releases. Each year, we look at what’s new, and we jump on the bandwagon, soaking in the new features and sharing all these moments.

Whether we are on social media platforms from Instagram, TikTok, or just playing some fantastic games on our phones, we rely on them. It’s become even more important to have a smartphone, thanks to the high accessibility of casino games.

Take Bingo, for example. In the past, you had to put up with a commute to the gaming hall. But now? All you do is download one of the best bingo apps, and you can game on the go. It’s no wonder that we cannot help but buy the latest phones. But will this change once the metaverse comes to be? That’s a question that’s on almost everyone’s mind. Do we have the answer?

The Metaverse

Let’s start with what the metaverse entails so we can figure out if your phone has a place in it. So, what is this metaverse that has tech companies so excited about the future?

According to experts, the metaverse will be a merge between the digital and physical worlds. So, you will have an avatar that can interact with things in the virtual world. You can do anything – bank, play games, hold a meeting, show up at a conference, etc. But only that you will not be there – but your avatar will- reflecting your every move. How great does that sound?

So, how will you access this metaverse, and does your phone have a role in it? If you think about it, some aspects of the metaverse already exist—for example, the use of VR headsets to attend conferences in other regions of the world. The metaverse will pretty much be like this. It will rely on virtual reality tech, augmented reality tech, and a stable internet connection. Did you notice that we did not mention a phone? So, with just a pair of VR headsets, you will be good to go. The other option will be to invest in custom software that can match the VR build. It’s going to be that easy.

Even tech companies are readying themselves for this imminent change. Apple just announced that it will launch a pair of glasses with which its users can access the metaverse. And if the predictions are anything to go by, there should be at least a billion of these AR devices in the next decade.

But we are getting ahead of ourselves here.

The Phone in the Metaverse

With all these mentions of VR headsets and custom software, you’re probably wondering if you should bother getting the next release of your favorite smartphone. Should you?

Okay, let’s think about it like this. Phones have been great so far as they have enabled us to interact with others as if they are in the room with us. Take Bingo apps as an example. You can play with someone from across the globe and even chat with them in the forums. But does this live up to their actual presence? Hardly – you can still feel the void left by their physical absence.

And how does the metaverse change this? It’s more interactive. Rather than chat with someone on the forums, your avatar can interact face-to-face with their avatar. It will feel like they are in the room with you. And you can strike up a conversation, share a beer, play together, and pretty much do everything you would in a traditional gaming hall.

That’s just one example of what the metaverse will change. You can also rely on it for work projects, business meetings, schoolwork, etc. And in all these cases, the experience will be more gratifying than if you were to use a phone. In the latter, the divide between the physical and virtual worlds is apparent, igniting feelings of anxiety and separation. But in the metaverse? You barely get to feel the difference.

Does that mean your phone will be obsolete? Not quite. We have all seen just how hard it is to replicate human faces in virtual reality. So, your avatar will probably look nothing like you do. That will make physical meetings quite interesting. We can agree that video calls would make more sense as tech companies sort that out.

As things stand, we are not quite sure if our phones will play a significant role in the metaverse. And as we wait, it would be a good idea to arm yourself with a reliable smartphone and enjoy some of the metaverse aspects in our digital world. Fingers crossed!
