Characters Excluded from Outlander Season 7B: See Who Won’t Return

Outlander fans have eagerly awaited the second part of Season 7, but there’s a bit of bittersweet news for them. While the show’s central characters, Jamie Fraser and Claire Fraser, portrayed by Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe, respectively, are safe and sound, four characters from the Outlander universe will not be making a return. These character absences are driven by a mix of reasons, including adherence to Diana Gabaldon’s book series and unavoidable scheduling conflicts. The second half of Outlander Season 7 has already completed filming, with post-production in progress, and it’s slated for release in 2024. However, some cherished characters will be notably absent. Additionally, work on Season 8 has commenced following the resolution of a writers’ strike dispute.

Farewell to Marsali and Fergus

In a double whammy for Outlander aficionados, Marsali and Fergus will not grace the screens in Season 7B. Maril Davis, the mastermind behind Outlander, has confirmed that this beloved couple won’t be featured in any episodes of Season 7. Lauren Lyle, who portrays Marsali Fraser, and Cesar Domboy, the actor behind Fergus Fraser, were occupied with other projects during the filming of the second half of the season. Consequently, Davis and the production team had a heart-to-heart with these two actors regarding their characters’ storylines.

One burning question that arises is how Claire will return to America without Marsali and Fergus. In the Outlander books, Marsali plays a pivotal role in Claire’s return. She writes to Laoghaire about health issues concerning Henri-Christian. Laoghaire implores Claire to save her grandson, striking a deal to release Jamie from his alimony, oblivious to the fact that Claire would have done so anyway. As a result, Claire and Young Ian embark on the journey back to America without Jamie. Without Marsali and Fergus, a significant narrative shift is bound to occur.

The Impact of Arch and Murdina Bug

Husband and wife duo Arch and Murdina Bug, portrayed by Hugh Ross and Sarah Collier, respectively, have been standout side characters since Season 5. However, their roles gained even greater significance in the first half of Season 7. They managed to pilfer the French gold from Jocasta Cameron, played by Maria Doyle Kennedy, and concealed it beneath their house. While they were in the process of relocating it to a new hiding spot, Claire and Jamie’s residence was tragically engulfed in flames. This led to Young Ian taking the life of Murdina Bug, setting the stage for Arch’s quest for vengeance. Arch is poised to play a substantial role when the Starz series makes its return.

Wendigo Donner: A Lost Time Traveler

Another character who won’t be gracing the screen in the second half of Outlander Season 7 is Wendigo Donner, portrayed by Brennan Martin. Claire encounters Wendigo in Season 5 when he visits the Big House in search of gemstones that would enable his return home. As fate would have it, Wendigo finds himself inside the house just as the flames engulf it during a fire. Although Jamie successfully evacuates everyone else, Wendigo tragically perishes in the blaze. His character doesn’t resurface in the books, marking the conclusion of his storyline.

In summary, as Outlander fans anticipate the second half of Season 7, they’ll need to bid adieu to Marsali, Fergus, Arch, Murdina Bug, and Wendigo Donner. While these characters have left an indelible mark on the series, their absence in Season 7B is a testament to the dynamic storytelling and ever-evolving plotlines that continue to captivate audiences.

It’s worth noting that Outlander Seasons 1-7 are available for streaming on Starz in the USA and on Lionsgate+ in the UK, allowing fans to relive their favorite moments and characters from the earlier seasons.
