Britain’s Got Talent star Ed Drewett has hit back at the critics ahead of tonight’s live show.
The singer-songwriter will be performing tonight but has come under fire for his professional past and close links to Simon Cowell, despite having never met him before his audition.
Ed, who has penned songs for One Direction, said: “I think it’s wrong that people would criticise me saying I’m not allowed to take part in the show because I’ve written songs for people.
“This all revolves around the same pivotal point, I’ve written songs that have done well and that should be celebrated, not held against me. ”
At his audition Ed performed his own song called Blink and despite his performance past, insisted there were still nerves.
“The majority of nerves in my first audition came from not knowing what the overall reaction is,” he recalled. “You can see how much it meant to me to have one of my most important songs to me sung in front of the nation.”
Speaking to MARKMEETS, Ed continued: “I’m still going to be nervous, it’s all part of the job, you go into autopilot and you deal with it — I’m going to fight.
“Blink is six years old. It shows that if a song’s good enough, it can remain current. It’s something I wrote that’s never left my mind. I couldn’t give that one away — it’s one of the most important songs I’ve ever written.”
Other acts performing in this evening’s smi-final include SweetChix, the Kony Puppets and five piece dance group Mini Moves, as well as rival solo singers Jodi Bird and James Smith.
Ed Drewett’s pal Mark Boardman added “Ed will get signed by Syco” shortly after the series has ended
