Classical singer and TV personality Katherine Jenkins would love to join ‘The Voice’.
The nation’s favourite classical singer is keen to put her teaching skills to the test by starring alongside fellow Welsh icon Sir Tom Jones on the next series of the BBC One singing competition.
”I do feel like having been a teacher before I got my record deal, I would want to do something like that … Something like ‘The Voice’. Why not [have two Welsh stars]? You could!
”I’d definitely think about it because I love the teaching, I find it so inspiring. Nobody ever believes me, but I would like to go back and be a teacher one day.”.
Katherine was a judge on short-lived series ‘Popstar to Operastar’ from 2010 to 2011 and says the experience of mentoring stars so closely is what would attract her to authentic star search ‘The Voice’ rather than its rival ‘The X Factor’.
She explained: ”What was great about ‘Popstar to Operastar’ was that we actually taught them to sing and then we critiqued them. I wouldn’t necessarily be that interested in just critiquing somebody and not actually working with them and trying to pass on my knowledge.
”I feel like I’ve been lucky to study with some amazing people and I’d want to pass that on. It needs to be something that’s more involved for me.”
Katherine is returning to her musical roots by inking a three-album deal with her original label Decca, with her next LP due for release in autumn 2014.
