Kevin Simms reveals how The Voice has given him new confidence

The Voice UK’s Kevin Simms has revealed how he was left ‘feeling s**t” after being dropped by his record label.

Former Liberty X singer had hoped to release a solo album following the group’s split in 2007 but it never materialised.

He’s now opened up abut how record bosses treated him, eventually even ignoring his emails.

Kevin said: “I wouldn’t say it was lies, but they said, ‘Oh, such and such is listening to your album, we’re going to get you signed in America’ and it gives you a bit of a buzz and a false hope that things are going to work out.

“And then it goes from that to you’re emailing saying, ‘What’s going on?’ and they’re not even replying to you. They just weren’t answering my emails back, which was pretty horrendous.”

Kevin told digitalspy: “Obviously when you’re signed to a record label and they’re not even answering your emails and calls, that does make you feel a bit s**t. That’s the thing that really knocked my confidence and made me think, ‘Maybe I should try and do something else’.”

On Saturday we saw Kevin wow The Voice UK coaches getting all four spinning – only the second act this year to do so – before joining Paloma Faith’s team.

Regardless of what happens next, Kevin says he’s happy to have been given he chance to show he can actually sing.

“I think when we did The Big Reunion with the band I got a little bit more credit for my voice, whereas throughout Liberty X I didn’t really get any sort of credit,” he explained. “And that’s not me whinging or anything, but it was just the way it was and the group was more based around the sexy girls and stuff. And plus the girls in the group had great voices!”

The Voice UK is on BBC One this Saturday.
