Doctor Who Peter Capaldi thought he would be too old to play the Doctor.
The 56-year-old admitted that he never thought that he would get his dream role.
“I wouldn’t have thought I would be the guy.
“I wouldn’t have thought it would be me. Because of my age.
“I would have thought they were automatically heading younger.” he told Entertainment Weekly.
The previous Doctor was played by 26-year-old Matt Smith and before him was David Tennant, 34, and Christopher Eccleston, who landed the role at 41.
However, Doctor Who executive producer Steven Moffat said Peter’s age was a help.
He said: “I did say, ‘No, we probably won’t end up with another quirky young man.’
“I didn’t think there was any space around Matt to have another Doctor of that kind, because he sort of sums up what you could do with that.
“I very, very quickly, very quickly just thought about Peter. There is no right age to be the Doctor.”
