Broadcaster Richard Bacon hosts new ITV entertainment series where eight sporting legends will be put through their paces.
Sporting legends face the ultimate test of endurance in a new six-part entertainment show, Eternal Glory, for ITV. Eight sports stars will compete against one another as they take on tough physical and mental challenges.
Richard Bacon will host the series, produced by Twofour, and filming will take place in Croatia this month (June).
The sporting legends will be tested to the max and assessed for psychological endurance, reaction speed, agility, hand-eye coordination, strength, stamina, visualisation, strategy, adaptability, and recovery time.
The competitors will live together in the beautiful setting of Croatia and will take on challenges in various locations in the Eastern European country. They’ll be hanging over the open waters of the Adriatic, searching for objects submerged in the deep sea and traversing across a high-wire rope over a ravine. At other times their feet will be firmly on the ground and they’ll be tested for hand-eye co-ordination, reaction and strategy.
Full of personal stories, Eternal Glory follows the eight stars, of all ages and disciplines. All are prize-winners in their own sport, but how will they fare when pushed beyond their comfort zone? Each episode comprises of four tough physical or mental challenges. One athlete will go home in each episode, determined by the ‘night duel’ game. Finally only one will emerge triumphant and achieve Eternal Glory.
Leading sports scientist Professor Greg Whyte, who has worked with celebrities including David Walliams and Davina McCall, will be providing an insight into the sports science behind each challenge.
Eternal Glory has already achieved strong success throughout Europe. It recently completed its sixth season for NRK Norway, where it regularly attracted a 65% share, and Sweden’s series 7 concluded on 31st May 2015 with a 61% share and 2,58 million viewers. Other European versions include three series in Belgium, as well as series for Denmark, Finland and Holland.
ITV’s Commissioning Editor, Entertainment Kate Maddigan said: “We have seen sports stars succeed in dancing, the jungle, cooking and the ice but I can’t wait to see them take on each other in these specially created challenges. This show is designed to reveal what makes sporting legends tick and I for one am excited to see under their skin and hear personal stories from their careers and beyond. With 8 of this country’s top sporting heroes going head to head we are in for a competition like no other and with Richard at the helm we hope to have plenty of laughs along the way.”
Cat Lawson from Twofour added: “We’ll be putting our own spin on a format that has already been well received around Europe. Croatia is the perfect setting and gives us scope for lots of varied challenges. We’re thrilled to have Richard Bacon at the helm in Croatia and Professor Greg Whyte who will be giving his expert advice on the sports science behind each activity.”
The 6 x 1 hour series is commissioned by ITV’s Entertainment commissioner editor Kate Maddigan. It will be exec produced by Melanie Leach, Andrew Mackenzie and Cat Lawson with Stephen Lovelock series producing for Twofour.
The line up of sports starts will be announced closer to transmission, which will be later this year.
