The former talent show winner appeared as a guest judge in the past but Simon admitted that she wouldn’t be taking up a seat on the panel this year.
Speaking to us at the launch of Britain’s Got Talent this week, Simon claimed that Leona was “too nice” for the show.
“I don’t think she’d be mean enough, she’s too nice,” he said.
Simon also laughed off the idea of James Arthur becoming this year’s new X Factor judge, replying: “I think that’s a no.”
But it does sound like this year’s new X Factor star could still be someone we’ve all seen before.
“I think [Alesha Dixon] would be a great judge on the show, but whether she’d want to as she likes doing Got Talent,” he told us. “We thought about her two years ago for the X Factor.”
Simon insisted that as yet however nothing beyond himself and Cheryl Cole had been agreed upon.
“Most of the stuff I’ve read about literally isn’t true,” he explained. “It’s a three month filming schedule so you’ve got to find someone who wants to do it, and who has literally nothing in their diary for three months, plus who wants to do the mentoring and coaching. It’s hard.”
The X Factor starts this autumn on ITV.
