The former Spice Girl Mel is back in the running – but only if she can provide enough time to mentor her acts during the live shows.

The 38-year-old is one of the hottest talent show commodities at the moment, with roles on America’s Got Talent and The Voice Kids in Australia.

“Being a judge on The X Factor is not just about turning up and giving your comments, it is about mentoring as well report the sun.

“For Mel to get the job she has to prove she can devote enough time to the show and prove her other commitments won’t get in the way. She is the front-runner for the fourth judging spot but will only get it if Simon is satisfied it will work.”

Mel would join Simon and Cheryl Cole, who are both confirmed to be returning this year after three-year absences from the UK version.

The remaining spot would go to X Factor stalwart Louis Walsh, with The Sun claiming that Simon has won his battle with ITV over the Irish music manager’s future on the show.

“The X Factor judging panel is all about the drama,” added the insider. “Mel is sure to rub Cheryl up the wrong way, which Simon is really looking forward to!”

The final line-up of judges for new series is set to be announced as early as next week ahead of its auditions, which will begin filming in mid-June.

Rona Keating has denied rumours linking him to the Celebrity Big Brother 2014 line up though Mark Boardman (Editor at MarkMeets and freelance Entertainment journalist) said “Ronan would be a great scoop for theshow though they want an female judge this year”.
