Pure Music

There’s so much incredible television out there that it can be hard to keep up with it all. How do we know if this is the week we should watch that new show everyone is talking about, or when we should go back and watch those we’ve been meaning to see for some time? Not only that, but going back to a show with five seasons and thirteen episodes each can lead to you feeling slightly overwhelmed.

You likely know the shows that are on your backlog. Dark, Stranger Things, even restoration projects such as Netflix’s Neon Genesis Evangelion remaster are starting to take over the cultural conversation right now. So, let us be your guide. In the following article, we hope to discuss which TV shows you should really be caring for. Using DVD and CD production services through services such as Pure Music might help you better keep track of your digital content should you wish to ensure everything is backed up, and using websites such as Letterboxd to rate your movie going experiences can be worthwhile. But when it comes to TV shows? Consider these options:

Peaky Blinders

Peaky Blinders, a BBC drama, is about to enter its fifth season, with the first episode dropping in mid-August. Set in Birmingham, England within the bustling decade of the 1920’s, Tommy Shelby (Cilian Murphy) and his family try to rise to the top of the competing mob families of the city. Based on some actual true events as the gang actually did exist, Stephen Knight the creator takes us through a rip-roaring time of violence, gambling, horse racing and steelworks. If you liked Boardwalk Empire, you will likely love this show. It’s almost parallel, sans the prohibition. Acting heavy-hitters such as Adrian Brody and Tom Hardy also show up frequently, and that can be enough for some people.

The Boys

The Boys released earlier this month on Amazon Prime, and has been gaining critical acclaim. Based on the graphic novel series and featuring names such as Karl Urban and Simon Pegg, The Boys is quite simply the novel Marvel story flipped on its head. The show asks ‘what if superheroes were the bad guys?’ What if, left unchecked, superheroes had almost no one to micromanage their lives except for the corporations solely based on profit? Surely then it wouldn’t be how many people a superhero could save as a measure of success, but how good they looked doing it. After all, this would sell the most merch. Well, the main protagonists of The Boys collective have had enough, and use creative means to bring them down. This series also features the character Homelander, one of the best TV villains in some time.

Mindhunter

Mindhunter is an excellent show, dedicated to depicting the FBI’s slow use of criminal profiling and psychological assessment to categorize, catch and potentially even help the criminal mind. If you like actors playing nefarious characters from history, great writing and a real dedication to the period, you will adore this show. The second season is again hitting within a week.

With these shows, your free time is sure to be well considered.
