Speculations are high as to who will be the fitting replacements for Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in the second installment of the popular crime drama True Detective.
With the official cast announcement of True Detective Season 2 just around the corner, casting rumours have gained considerable ground. After the first season met an uncanny finale in the spring, the cast and plot change rumours for the second season are turning out to be more and more prominent. Avant-garde execution of storyline, spine-chilling twists and phenomenal performances by the lead actors McConaughey and Harrelson have already made True Detective the most watched HBO series right next to Game of Thrones. The latest casting rumour that is doing the rounds is show creator Nic Pizzolatto’s hint that the second season will feature three leads instead of two like in the first season. It is also revealed that the new season will have a plot setting in California where a “psychosphere” ambiance will be highlighted to fit the mood of the series.
Colin Farrell
After the first season bagged three nominations in this year’s 66th Emmy Awards due to the magnificent performances by the lead actors, it is duly expected that Season 2 will featur actors who can righteously fill the shoes of McConaughey and Harrelson. The most prominent cast rumour has been regarding the supposed casting of Colin Farrell in the next season. Farrell is rumoured to be in serious talks with the show’s producers and creators to play the older male detective. After exhibiting promising performances over the years and his latest stint in the 2013 biographical film “Saving Mr. Banks”, Farrell can be expected to leave a mark in his rumoured television venture as well.
Taylor Kitsch and Garrett Hedlund For the casting of the younger counterpart in Season 2, Taylor Kitsch is rumoured to be up for the role after he impressed both critics and audiences with his amazing supporting performance in the HBO movie “The Normal Heart”. Alongside Kitsch, the name of the actor Garrett Hedlund is also in consideration for the same role.
Jessica Chastain
After the True Detective creators hinted that the latest season would also star a prominent female character, casting speculations reached a new dimension. There was a strong buzz surrounding actress Jessica Chastain being roped in for the female role, but later, both HBO and Jessica snubbed the rumour. With Season 2 going on the floors soon, it can be rightfully anticipated that only big names will make it to the casting list given the fact that the first season set such a high standard for its succeeding seasons.
Cate Blanchett, Joaquin Phoenix and Josh Brolin
The Casting rumour for True Detective Season 2 is near equivalent to the latest Star Wars has no official confirmation on the cast is yet announced for either of them. Other Hollywood big names that have made it to the casting speculation list include heavyweight actors like Cate Blanchett, Joaquin Phoenix and Josh Brolin. Maximum buzz was created when the news of supposed casting of superstar Brad Pitt did the rounds of tinsel town.
As the wait for the second season of this outstanding detective drama gets more intense, so do the casting rumours. There is no slightest doubt that Season 2 is going to be darker and more severe in comparison to the inaugural season, and hence a demand for powerful actors in the lead roles sounds quite legitimate.
