‘We aren’t even on the air with series five yet, and it won’t end until April 2016. Why couldn’t they have held off making the announcement till then? I don’t understand why it had to be public now.’ Were they shocked? Paloma clutches the table in mock horror. ‘Yes, we were all thinking, “Oh my God, we’re all being made redundant. Will we have to sign on next week?”’ and they fall about laughing.

‘We just don’t know what will happen,’ says Boy George. ‘I mean I’ve only signed up for one series so I have no idea how it will pan out, but you can’t do this job and look too far ahead. That would be like embarking on a tour and thinking, “The next one isn’t going to be successful.” Our focus is this series.’ Paloma does concede that they have something rather big to prove. What does it mean for the show? ‘It means we’re going to kick a**!’

George says, contestants on these sorts of shows have it too easy saying ‘We live in the age of the selfie, where everyone expects praise. With some people there’s a lot of self-entitlement, they want to be told they’re brilliant and don’t like the truth. I’m not going to tell some 19-year-old that they can walk on water. If they’re out of tune, they have to hear it.’

So he’s going to be a nasty judge? Paloma leaps in. ‘That’s the problem. You can’t offer criticism at all these days without someone saying it’s nasty.’ She goes on a rant about how a little suffering – even at the hands of TV judges – is a good thing. ‘As a society we’ve changed. People don’t endure pain any more. If something hurts, you take a pill. We’re all dosed up on medication…’ Will joins in. ‘You know you can’t even tell people they’re wrong now on social media. They block you! No one will hear it!’

We’re clearly in for some harsh comments from the red chairs. To what end, though? The criticism of The Voice has been that it doesn’t make stars. Mostly it doesn’t even make memorable winners. Paloma insists they’re out to change that – but suggests that it’s up to the TV audience to pull its weight.

‘I’d like to see people voting for the person whose album they think they’ll go out and buy – not the person they like the most. And then they have to give the winner time to put that album together, rather than just churn it out as quickly as possible.’
At the point when does The Voice UK begin on TV?

The Voice 2016 begin date has been affirmed for Saturday, January 9 on BBC One at 7:30PM as the first round of visually impaired tryouts kick off.

This year by and by sees another invigorated line up of judges. Back for their fifth run is Will.i.am who has been available on each show since the very first moment.

Ricky Wilson is also back WHOOP!! having initially joined the show in 2014.

Be that as it may, Sir Tom Jones is out thus joining the mentors this year are two beginners: Paloma Faith replaces Rita Ora while Boy George assumes control Sir Tom’s seat.

And the hosts? While the board has switched up alittle, Emma Willis and Marvin Humes remain as the show’s facilitating team, fronting the show from the first tryouts right the route through to the live shows in the Spring.

Any spoilers on the candidates?

Purportedly among the challengers who performed at the attempt outs recently was Waterloo Road and Holby City performer Thomas Milner.

Another recognizable name, yet to those of a fairly distinctive era, to sing for the board was Bernie Clifton. The 79-year-old showed up on telly in the 70s and 80s and was known for dressing in an ensemble that depicted him sat on top of a yellow ostrich called Oswald.

The Voice UK will return on 9 January on BBC1.
