Filming Locations of ITV Drama “The Tower”
The gripping drama of ITV’s “The Tower” may be set in London, but the series chose to film in different locations to bring its story to life. Here’s a guide to the filming locations used for the show.
A Northern Setting
Despite the London setting of the show, the production team opted for northern locations when deciding where to shoot the much-anticipated series. Emmett J Scanlan, known for his role in “Peaky Blinders,” mentioned two major cities as key filming locations.
In discussing season 1, Scanlan shared, “I was either filming in Liverpool or Manchester so frequenting streets that I used to frequent back in 2010 [while appearing on Hollyoaks]. That was definitely a trip down memory lane.”
Liverpool Takes the Stage
Writer and executive producer Patrick Harbinson confirmed that much of the filming took place in Liverpool, with plans to return to the city for the newly confirmed “The Tower 3: Gallowstree Lane.”
Liverpool served as the backdrop for various scenes in the first season, and snaps from the Liverpool Echo captured cast members filming a funeral scene at Runcorn Cemetery, located in Halton.
The Scenic Cheshire
Cheshire also played a role in the show’s first season. The picturesque surroundings of Knutsford’s Tatton Park were utilized for scenes involving key cast members, Emmett J Scanlan and Tahirah Sharif. The scenic park, known for its natural beauty and presence of wildlife, provided the setting for a “crazy” and beautifully written seven-minute scene between the two actors.
Glazebury and Beyond
For season 1, the cast and crew ventured to Glazebury, Warrington, a town situated between Manchester and Liverpool. This location served as another crucial backdrop for the series, further emphasizing the northern aesthetic that the show adopted.
Additionally, scenes were filmed near Seacombe Ferry Terminal, as reported by the Wirral Globe. A disused Merseyrail train was part of the scene, further contributing to the diverse range of locations used in the series.
