Basics of wearing and buying eyeglasses

Wearing sunglasses is a common practice, although most people are unaware of the lenses available to them or how they can use the glasses to achieve maximum, including enhancement of their looks. Technology has evolved significantly, allowing the invention of advanced lenses that can be used like eyeglass frames. The article covers the different strategies that can be used to understand better the type of lenses and the many available assortments. The article answers the questions about how individuals spend their time outdoors, how they spend time at night, the specific need for eyeglasses, and the amount of time spent wearing sunglasses.

Types of eyeglass lenses

The preferred type of lens is determined after an eye exam, and the optician or doctor always prescribes the recommended type of lens needed for a specific purpose. The most commonly used lenses are the single vision lenses used to correct farsighted or short-sightedness. In contrast, multifocal lenses are used when there is more than one vision problem to be fixed. Lenticular lenses are preferred when more severe eye conditions are specified.

The other type of lens commonly used is the progressive lens which uses a multi-focal lens to correct specific problems with the vision. The lenses use a continuous band that includes the prescription strengths, which allow the eyes to adjust by leaving the focus on faraway objects to focusing on up-close things. The less costly alternative is the use of standard bifocal or trifocal lenses. Still, people who use these lenses have increased instances of reported eye fatigue, headaches, and dizziness. The use of progressive lenses saves individuals the problem by allowing for the ease of adjustment without the sudden change to allow the eyes to focus on the new objects.

Materials used for lenses

After deciding the type of lenses wanted, it comes to determining the materials to make the lenses. The materials used should ensure the lenses are functional and fashionable. Some of the materials used include;

High-index lenses are manufactured using specialized plastic, which allows for the refraction of light more than a standard lens. They are thinner, more comfortable, and thinner and are revered by persons with solid prescriptions since they eliminate magnified eyes.

Photochromic lenses

The leading manufacturer of photochromic lenses is Transitions ®. They are lenses that are affected by light in their functionality. They turn from clear indoors to fully dark in the outdoor sunlight allowing for a superior visual experience.

Polycarbonate lenses- Polycarbonate lenses are made using hardened plastic, making them more impact resistant than standard lenses. They are lighter and thinner compared to traditional plastic lenses, which makes them ideal for use by children, for safety, and as sports eyewear.

Coating lenses

Coating lenses depend on personal preference because a wide range of coatings exists. The coating chosen should match the lifestyle choice and must be most beneficial. The different types of coatings include;

UV coating- The lenses are made to protect against the long-term damage of the UV light from the sun. The latter is because the UV rays are linked to the development of macular degeneration and the development of cataracts. Most lens manufacturers have the consideration in place because most of the lenses in the market have a UV coating, making it imperative to ask healthcare providers about the UV coating.

AR (Anti-Reflective) coating- The AR coating is used to reduce the amount of reflection on the lenses, increasing the amount of light passing through the lenses. The latter improve the quality of vision and are preferred when driving at night to reduce the glare caused by oncoming traffic.
