When you’re not feeling well, you often want to curl up in your bed and do nothing. But, unfortunately, we aren’t always able to just rest up while we’re not feeling 100%.

If you’ve got somewhere to be, or just want to make yourself feel that little bit better as you’re relaxing around the house, there are plenty of tips and tricks that you can follow to feel more like yourself.

In this article, we’re going to be taking you through some of the tips that we think everyone should follow when they’re feeling under the weather.

To find out some of the best ways to make yourself feel better when sick, keep on reading.

Stay Hydrated

When you’re not feeling too good, you may not have the energy to do some of the most important things that make you feel your best – like drinking water.

If you haven’t drunk enough water, you can quickly start to feel tired, dehydrated and more ill than you did before, so it’s important to keep your liquid intake up.

Don’t worry if you’re feeling sick and drinking water doesn’t taste very good, you can always have some tea or squash which taste a lot better and will still help to keep you hydrated.

Try to avoid fizzy drinks where possible as, even though these are liquid, they are so full of sugar that they can leave you feeling even worse than you felt before.

Calm Your Swollen Eyes

Whether it’s allergies or the flu, swollen eyes can be a big tell-tale sign that you’re not feeling your best. But, it’s easy to conceal these in a few different ways.

Start by using a cooing eye roller, or teaspoons that you leave in the fridge, around your eyes. This will instantly de-puff your eyes to get rid of any swelling.

You can then use some eye drops to cancel out any redness and to stop them from feeling itchy and irritated.

Use Concealers

A good concealer can hide a multitude of issues, whether it’s redness from allergies or dark circles from where you haven’t been sleeping very well.

All you need is a thin layer of concealer on the areas around your eyes where there is the most discoloration and you will look instantly more awake and lively.

To keep the concealer in place all day long, finish off with a light dusting of translucent powder to set everything down.

Apply Bronzer

One of the best ways to make yourself feel better when sick is to add a bit of colour to your face with the help of some bronzer.

When you’re not feeling well, your face can sometimes look super dull and tired. But when you add some bronzer to warm your face up a bit, you’ll instantly look 100 times better.

Apply bronzer along your cheekbones, bridge of your nose, and around your forehead in the areas where the sun would naturally hit and you’ll have a summer-worthy glow in no time.

Use a Decent Mascara

Long, fluttering eyelashes are something that most people try to achieve in their daily makeup looks but this step is even more important when you’re not feeling very well.

A coat of black mascara will instantly open your eyes up and make you look that little bit more put together.

If you prefer a more natural look, you could choose a brown mascara that is not so dark as your standard black shades.

Use good quality tissues

Constantly blowing and wiping your nose is something that can’t really be avoided when you’ve got a cold or the flu, but this can make your nose become red and irritated throughout the day – which isn’t always the look we’re trying to go for.

By keeping a packet of good quality tissues on hand at all times, you won’t have to worry about irritating your skin.

Just remember to keep a bit of extra concealer in your bag so you can reapply if your tissues have wiped all your makeup off!

Maintain glossy &  smooth lips

Our final makeup-related tip is to apply a generous layer of lip balm to your lips. This will perfect your pout and keep your lips feeling super hydrated all day long.

If you want to add a bit more colour, you could even choose a tinted lip balm. These products will give you all the pigment of a regular lipstick, but the nourishing properties of the very best lip balms.

Dry lips are never a good look, especially when you’re ill, so this is the perfect finishing touch for any sick day makeup routine.

Wear your favorite tops

Now that we’ve made up our faces to look healthy and awake even though we’re not feeling 100%, the final step to look good when you’re not feeling well is putting on a killer outfit.

When you step out of the house in an outfit that you feel confident and comfortable in, you’ll instantly forget how ill you were feeling before.

Whether you feel the best when wearing jeans and a t-shirt, or a formal dress, you should always wear what makes you feel like yourself.

We like wearing pretty womens going out tops with our favourite pair of jeans and a comfortable pair of trainers. It’s the perfect mixture of style and comfort, which is essential on those sick days.
