Ashley Roberts Interview

Ever since her time on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Ashley Roberts has become one of the nation’s telly sweethearts, working her way into our hearts with her bubbly American charm and infectious personality.

The blonde bombshell credits the jungle challenge show with giving her the confidence to “do whatever” she’s scared of in life, and after coming second on the programme, going on to be embraced by the British audience, who up until that point only knew Ashley as one of the Pussycat Dolls.

Speaking about her time on I’m a Celeb, Ashley told STV: “Oh my god that was insane! I did things I never thought I would do or even be capable of doing, but I think it gave me a big sense of confidence to be like, ‘OK, whatever I’m scared of I can get through it somehow’.

“I met some great people and experience some really outrageous things.”

Those ‘outrageous things’ included the many trials Ashley took part in, which included her most dreaded – chomping down on the likes of kangaroo penis and jungle nasties.

“That was disgusting, the eating trial is so gross. I was like, ‘what am I doing?’.

“Sleeping in a bed of rats is not ideal. The whole thing in general was a lot to take in, but the eating trial was definitely the worst. It was nasty.”

And the singer and telly star credits her time on the show with helping act as a launch pad to many other big projects, with Ashley adding: “I met some amazing people, and coming out of it, what I didn’t expect was the UK really embracing me. I was super grateful for that.”

One of the things that I’m a Celeb led to was a role as a judge on the final two series of Dancing on Ice – and Ashley admitted that after getting a go round the rink on the final ever episode of the show with her fellow judges, she got the bug to get her skates on.

“I did four hours prep before the live show and I thought, ‘I could probably do this if I really wanted to commit the time.’

“But it’s scary, that ice is hard baby, there’s no bounce. Once you’re down, you’re down and the blades are sharp!”

Ashley will also be back on our screens shortly in celebrity special of Catchphrase which will see her pitted against fellow stars including Mel Giedroyc, as she tries to win the game saying what she sees.

But for the moment, Ashley’s focus is very much on her music career, with the singer releasing her debut solo single Clockwork on May 25.
