Upbeat and energetic, ‘Far Away’ relies on uplifting electronic beats and catchy melodies as the backdrop of Ghatore’s calls to align with the truth that lies within us all. The result of profound inner reflection, the single portrays the complex relationship we have with our own selves in the hectic materialistic world we live in. Fueled by subtle instrumental nods to his cultural heritage, the song becomes a powerful allegory for the troubled fate of the Indian farmers having their roots pulled out in recent events. Amrit Ghatore says:
“As we climb the ladder of materialistic success, we can sometimes lose track of our roots and who we truly are. Our roots help ground us and shape who we are. Right now, this song is a wake up call to the inner self to re-engage with those roots.”
Here is what he told us about his new single, how he started and what’s coming next in an exclusive interview!
We played your new music video ‘Far Away’ and our team love it, it mixes the luxury lifestyle in with that of farmers in India well and throughout the video there are multiple messages including a scene of the father who is proud of his son who says he feels ‘so close to you but far away’, but how did you manage to capture this imagery so well, it’s very clever. “The imagery was tricky but i was obsessed with trying to use a mirror and visual editing effects as mirrors are a very stereotypical use for inner reflection of oneself.”
The music and video production and quality of songwriting is to a very high level – who else helped to piece the song together? The beats are a strong fit and just drop straight in! “I did it myself as I compose, write and produce my own songs however I spent a lot of time around different music producers over the years and they have definitely helped contribute to my work.”
Your voice is truly unique and has a great tone but how did you start in the electro-pop genre. “I kinda just fell into it : lol i like to experiment with music and see where it takes me so this song started out on piano and fused to become electro-pop.”
You also studied as a karate instructor, will this see any moves in upcoming music videos? “Yes I’ve had an interesting opportunity which may bring my skills to light in a future music video “
With roles in various TV shows clearly you have a variety of goals so what is coming up for you? “At the moment, I am in talks with a film producer where he has taken an interest in some of my songs and would like to incorporate them in his films which is exciting. I try not to plan too much. I like to take life as it comes. “
In terms of collaborations, who would be on your most wanted list work with? “I would say Sia”.
Five quick questions:
First album purchased. “Michael Jackson”
Favourite go to karaoke song? ‘’Can’t help falling in love’’ by Elvis
If you could only watch one tv show ever again, what would it be? The office (US version)
What would be your superpower? Flying.
What would be a good theme song for your life? ‘’Life is a highway’’ by Rascal Flatt.
Amrit started honing his songwriting abilities at the age of 15 writing pop songs, but it was learning holy hymns at home which inspired him to learn the dilruba and include it in his music. Incorporating the discipline used in his karate training to keep pushing forward, Amrit credits music with unfolding a more tender side to the hard exterior which initially shaped his martial arts career. When not working on his music or modeling Amrit can be found in the dojo as a martial arts instructor. Forever on the move, the Londoner is also a signed model, previously working with the likes of Harrods, and even performing stunt work for Idris Elba on the Sky Atlantic show ‘Guerilla’.
Amrit has already seen the support from the likes of London Live TV, BBC Radio Leeds, MarkMeets Media and BBC Asian Network.
