SO GLAD YOU’RE HERE, BLÜ EYES! LET’S START OFF SMALL. WHO WAS YOUR EARLIEST MUSICAL INFLUENCE, AND WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM THEM?
I think that would have to be Taylor Swift. Definitely learned great songwriting from her, as well as the importance of being confident in your talent and owning whatever version of yourself you want to be in the moment.
WHAT ASPECT OF MUSIC INTERESTS YOU THE MOST (WRITING / PERFORMING / ETC), AND CONVERSELY, WHAT INTERESTS YOU THE LEAST?
Writing and producing are my most favorite activities. I LOVE the idea that I can wake up one day and create something that never existed before. The aspect that interests me the least is the self-promotion – I’m not the best at hyping myself. Working on it tho.
DID YOU TAKE ANY FORMAL TRAINING AND HOW MANY HOURS DO YOU PRACTICE IN A DAY?
I took piano lessons when I was young, voice lessons in high school, and then I actually got a degree in music performance at USC. I wish I could say I practice every day, but some days I get totally zoned in producing a track or writing, and some days I just need a break. But when I do practice, I usually do about 30 mins – 1 hour.
WHAT TRACK HAVE YOU BEEN LISTENING RECENTLY?
I’ve been really loving Overkill by Holly Humberstone lately.
IF YOU WERE NOT A SINGER?
Honestly, no idea. Probably would have some boring corporate job – or maybe do some kind of therapy?
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BE A SOLO PERFORMING ARTIST?
Learn about yourself. Spend time honing your taste and your craft – figure out exactly what kind of music you love and then make more of that. Don’t make the music you think people want to hear from you, make what you would want to listen to. When it’s all on you, you have to be confident and authentic about what you put out there.
